That and Maltese Falcon are the two older classics that I think live up to the hype

Midnight Cowboy - "Im walking here!"

other then Midnight Cowboy and Easy Rider Ive not seen them either
didn't Louis Winthorpe III (From Trading Places) say, "I'm walking here" while stumbling away from the party in his Santa suit after nearly being hit by a car?

I've never really understood why a movie is a "date".

Let's go somewhere and sit in the dark and look at the same thing without speaking to each other... What's the point in that?

My wife and I occasionally will go see a movie if we both want to see it, but it's the dinner that makes it a date, the movie is just us doing the same thing together in silence.
ya never watched a movie with my Ex

Movies are a good first date for precisely that reason.  Low pressure to converse and, after the movie, you can grab coffee or dessert or a drink, and already have a shared experience to discuss.

And my wife and I both love going to the movies, so it's a good date night for us, still.  Shared cultural experiences are valuable for relationship-building and maintaining.

If you can't sustain a conversation on the first date, how are the rest gonna go?

Lots of folks are shy and need some help starting conversations.

I never was.  I'm a John Stamos look-alike with fantastic game.  But some folks need a little help.
