My wife recently told me she's never seen A Few Good Men or The Shawshank Redemption

That will soon be rectified.

- Gone With the Wind - sooo long, but good.
- On the Waterfront - never heard of it, lol
- Citizen Kane - overrated, imo
- French Connection - never seen it
- Clint's - Spaghetti Westerns - good for a lazy sunday afternoon watch
- None of the Lord of Rings or Harry Potter movies, though prolly not considered classics - must watch, especially the lotr. watch extended editions, though.
- Big Lebowski - fantastic flick
- Schindler's List - excellent movie, but be prepared.
i've never seen:

  • the 2 mentioned above
  • casablanca
  • 12 angry men
  • a streetcar named desire
  • dr strangelove
  • goldfinger (probably a couple other bond movies i've missed too)
  • night of the living dead
  • the bridge on the river kwai

Schindler's List is the one that immediately came to mind for me.

I love movies and see a lot of them.  I've seen pretty much all the others listed on this thread so far.

I've never really understood why a movie is a "date".

Let's go somewhere and sit in the dark and look at the same thing without speaking to each other... What's the point in that?

My wife and I occasionally will go see a movie if we both want to see it, but it's the dinner that makes it a date, the movie is just us doing the same thing together in silence.
Same here.

That was the first thing that went when we had kids

No Titanic or Jurassic Parks.

I don't think I've seen a single Marvel or any other non Batman comic movie.
don't worry about the rest, but go see jp1. still hold up today, sans a little computer technology screentime.

Movies are a good first date for precisely that reason.  Low pressure to converse and, after the movie, you can grab coffee or dessert or a drink, and already have a shared experience to discuss.

And my wife and I both love going to the movies, so it's a good date night for us, still.  Shared cultural experiences are valuable for relationship-building and maintaining.

Bridge on the River Kwai was tremendous
Favorite Line was spoken by the Japanese general trying to get the British troops to build his bridge "Be Happy In Your Work"

Right. If this was a first date I agree but if you have been married for 20+ years and raised children then you've met

not always a need for conversation just being together sharing an enjoyable experience is sufficient

when me and mrs rtf were dating, we got into a lot of movies free, cause i knew a guy. :67: we'd go watch a film, then grab some coffee and walk in the park. did that at least twice a week. i bet i saw 75-80% of the movies in theatres in town from 99-05.
