That is what I hear, we're staying three nights on the beach at the Hilton.  I think she'll like it.  Around a 6 hour drive, which is about the same for Hilton Head or Jekyll.

We both like HH a lot, off season.  Jekyll Island is very nice also.  I understand the local shrimp there is good, and maybe grouper.

Both are true, but you will also find snapper, tuna, and other species.

I doubt you will be unimpressed, but...

I plan to have nothing but seafood for dinner every evening.  Speaking of traveling, I found this to be an interesting place to see:

I know SOME folks dislike dams....

We did find a very good place in Amsterdam, so hope is not entirely lost.  Other than that one place, the food was ... insipid.  I also have had some pretty good food in a place called France.  Italy too.  Even Canada.

New Orleans was pretty much a wasteland.  I think in Austin it was due to our host, who didn't really seem to be a foodie.  And I had pretty good food in Austin at a tailgate once, a while back.  We should do that again.  What say I visit Austin and we go to a LH game this fall?

Totally down for that!

I'm actually going to the Ohio State game, it's gonna be a madhouse.

Pick a date, maybe after October 20 or so.  I'm fine with a "minor" game.  I have a Texas cap here somewhere.

I'm no defender of Nola, but if ALL you came away with is "wasteland," then A) you didn't do much touring, or somehow managed to avoid everything cool, and B) you actively tried to avoid good food.  You'd have had to.

We were there three days, we walked around a lot, I tried to find decent food, but the French lady with us claimed she knew where to dine.  She didn’t.  Was it awful food wise? No, just nothing special.

My wife and I had a couple lunches on our own that were OK in the FQ.  Seemed touristy to me.

I really dislike litter and trash, e.g. why I disliked Amsterdam a lot.  Same kind of thing.

Sometimes we have to dine where our hosts take us, and sometimes they don’t know S from ShiNOLA.

I’ve been spoiled with good food I reckon, my wife’s fault mostly.  We dined last night at FOGO, my(wife likes it a lot, which surprises me,  I think it is OK, but gets pricey.

I find it easier to stumble across great food in New Orleans than it is to stumble across great food in Paris.  And I say that as an unabashed Francophile.

Maui: still great. We always stay in the Kaanapali region, north of Lahaina. Technically Honokowai, but no one knows where that is. Unfortunately, post Lahaina fire, the restaurant options are not as good as they once were. Our family loves the Flat Bread Pizza place in Paia, which means we've never been to Mama's Fish House, which, supposedly, is amazing. Maybe someday, but maybe not. The lilikoi cheese cake at Flat Bread Pizza is literally my favorite dessert anywhere.

No big bike rides this year, but did get some fancy golf in. That was nice.
