I’ve flown domestic in Delta One three times.  It is impressive.  Sometimes the plane doesn’t have first class as it was used for a non domestic flight.  You can have fun playing with the seat for an hour.

Never had it for a long flight though, it costs about $8 K.

I may have mentioned coming back through JFK … my wife and I were chatting about the very long walk we had to get to our gate.  I think that was my longest walk in any airport.

However, if you come into ATL in Terminal E from out of the US, that also is a long walk as Customs is only in Terminal F and you can’t access the Plane Train.  

Haneda had a long walk too.   We had to retrieve our luggage at JFK and recheck it.  That is normal I guess.

If you want a long airport walk, fly a domestic airline (AA, UA, D, Etc.) into ORD from a Foreign country.

The international airlines take up the primo spots (such as they are) in that crap terminal. The domestics get the extended spots.

Japan has quietly stepped into one of the most technically demanding races in aviation with a hypersonic engine test that pushes far beyond anything currently flying in commercial aerospace. At JAXA’s Kakuda Space Center in Miyagi, researchers successfully carried out what officials described as Japan’s first Mach 5 combustion test using a hypersonic experimental aircraft, marking a significant moment for a country that has spent decades researching high-speed propulsion behind the scenes.

At Mach 5, or roughly 3,800 mph, a hypersonic aircraft could theoretically fly from Tokyo Narita to New York’s JFK in just 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The numbers alone make the project sound almost unreal. Mach 5 is roughly 3,800 mph, fast enough to cross the Pacific in a fraction of the time taken by today’s long-haul flights. At that speed, even a route as punishing as Tokyo Narita to New York JFK, which covers roughly 6,730 miles, could theoretically be completed in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, before factoring in climb, routing, acceleration, and descent. More importantly, it is nearly three times faster than the cruising speed targeted by Boom Supersonic’s Overture, the American-built Concorde successor that aims to fly at Mach 1.7. For context, even at Mach 1.7, a New York JFK to Los Angeles flight of roughly 2,475 miles could theoretically take about 1 hour and 55 minutes, making Overture remarkably quick by today’s standards, yet still nowhere near Japan’s hypersonic ambitions. While Boom is trying to revive supersonic passenger travel for the modern era, Japan is already testing technologies that operate in an entirely different category of physics.


Japan’s Mach 5 experiment was about much more than raw speed
The test took place inside JAXA’s ramjet engine testing facility, where engineers recreated a simulated Mach 5 flight environment around a compact experimental aircraft. That meant exposing the vehicle to temperatures approaching 1,000 degrees Celsius around the airframe, the kind of thermal punishment that can destroy conventional aircraft structures within minutes.

LAX is similar, but even worse if you have a domestic connection. Brutal.

Last time we flew out of LAX, the WallyPark shuttle driver dropped us at one of the domestic AA entrances and we breezed through security...

...and then I swear we walked a mile through the bowels of LAX just to get to our...

...domestic AA gate. :smiley_confused1:

Yeah, at ORD a domestic connection involves a train ride to terminals 1, 2 or 3, and they are all huge.

It can be pretty rough, I'm sure. I've never done it.

That's the difference: the train ride. LAX doesn't have that (or if it does, it's not obvious).

Where is the international terminal at LAX? Obviously, I've never used it.

Only ORD (easy* but a lot of walking), DFW (sucks) and PHX (cakewalk). Came into MIA and FLL many times, but those were cruise terminals (super easy).

We had a connection coming through DFW and almost missed it. We were hungry and there was no time to get anything. That airport sucks.

DFW sucks.

* Easy for me - been using ORD my whole life.

LAX is designed as a "horseshoe". The international terminal is at the middle of the horseshoe...

That's also a very far walk from the furthest gate to customs.

LAX is not a friendly airport at all, but maybe it will be better when they are done with the improvements they are making.
