I floss then brush, but when I go to my dentist they clean, then polish, then floss as the final step, so what do I know?
I suspect that final floss step is just to make sure they've gotten everything and nothing is catching.

I partly brought this up because I had a cleaning/exam yesterday and the hygienist actually did say to floss then brush. But I wanted to hear what other people thought before I mentioned her opinion.

She actually suggested this (as usual)... And apparently it's supposed to be in this order:

  • Floss
  • Brush
  • Water pik
  • Mouthwash

I think they do it that way because the polish is abrasive and you want to make sure that doesn’t settle between teeth? And you wanna start with the cleaning because that has to be sort of the most pinpoint accurate.

for day-to-day, I was always under the impression that flossing loosened things up and then the brushing and swishing could wash it all out.

The volume would crash the site.
