We have plenty of threads full of controversy and vitriol, but not one dedicated to good things.  So now, here it is.  I'll start.

Fair enough.  Now we have two threads dedicated to good things.  One is personal, one is global.

You're welcome.

Things I enjoy in the world:

I enjoy our neighborhood a lot and the park across the street.
I meet friendly people, usually, almost every day, even if it's a simple wave or head nod or quick work.
We enjoy travel obviously even though it can be tiring at times.  Meeting other people from very different cultures reassures me normal folks are pretty much the same.

I enjoy dining out, duh, and getting to know the owners or GMs of smaller restaurants.
I obvously enjoy posting here and reading how others think.
I get a kick out of Facebook, though often I am not impressed by how some "think", duh.

I try and maintain some kind of perspective about what's important in life.
I enjoy when our kids come to visit.  Even the grandkids are becoming tolerable.
I enjoy day trips to state parks or towns I've never visited not too distant.

I enjoy history, reading about it, even when it's very bad, it provides some perspective about life today.
I enjoy our pool, which I'm about to enjoy literally.  It's too hot to run outside.
I enjoy talking and posting about more positive things out there.

I’m close to finishing a book that’s at the start. I wasn’t too sure about and is now rounding into being very good.

I'm in abeyance with respect to writing books.  My kid gave me a decent idea for another one, but I'm taking some time off, with my busy schedule and all.

I've actually written an outline and some skeleton chapters for the second half of a book I started about 30 years ago.  It was a book about a powerful AI entity infiltrating the internet, and at the time it was pretty cutting edge.  I was a programmer back then and knew quite a bit about networking as well.

Now it is woefully out of date, and I'd abandoned the project and given up any hope of ever updating it.

But in talking with my brother about it recently, I realized that I can still use the basic ideas for a modern story, and I further realized that my original book would actually become a prequel to that.  The original book will become the origin story, and then we rejoin 30 years later to see what has happened.

I think it's a pretty awesome idea and now I just need to get going on completing not one, but two novels. :)
