I think it's time to talk about Thanksgiving food, what about y'all?
My dad always deep-fries one turkey. He uses a "Cajun butter" injection that has some really nice spice and also leaves the turkey really moist on the inside.
This year since I'm hosting at my house (we rotate and I get it once every 4 years), I'll also be smoking a bird. It'll be brined, spatchcocked, and then bbq'd over pecan. I typically use oak for beef, but I absolutely love the way pecan works with fowl.
Then our sides will be the usuals-- homemade cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, sausage cheese grits, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, fresh cranberry relish, canned gel cranberry (because my brother loves it and will eat an entire can by himself), and anything else someone decides to bring. My sister eats low-carb and makes a really good "loaded mashed cauliflower" that has bacon and cheese and stuff in it.
And for dessert, my SIL who is a pastry chef will make a homemade pumpkin pie and a homemade sweet potato pie, and someone else will probably bring some apple pie and/or pecan pie.
So... what's on YOUR table in 3 weeks?
