my father was like that - didn't try any exotic food until later in life

mid to late 50s when he started dating after my mother passed

therefore, I wasn't exposed to many foods until I left for college - Lincoln wasn't great for ethnic foods back on the early 80s but there were some.

that wasn't a factor - my mother was 100% German - cooked meat & potatoes - only midwestern food

well, we did get some pizza and spaghetti once in a while - Chef Boyardee

Neither was mine until he left the radio station and sold the restaurant.  

It's one of the reasons I've never aspired to become a Director or VP at my company-- I like spending time with my family.  Even with the kids' extracurriculars we still eat a home-cooked dinner together at least 4 days per week.

Our main meal was lunch*, which has carried over in my life. We rarely eat after 4-5PM.

*Back in the day, schools used to let kids go home for lunch.
