i can't believe Ole Miss is so high.  They SUCKED in the 90s. 
EDIT - actually, they didn't.  Hmmph.  
They only had a couple of sub-.500 seasons then.  They didn't truly suck until 2005-2011, with multiple winless SEC seasons and some 1-7s as well.  But only one truly awful 2-10 year.  

Surprising to me.

I don't follow much anymore, but my brother told me some in Springfield are trying to enact a progressive tax. No idea what that would look like - don't care anymore.

yup, I deal with my property tax by owning a very modest home in a small town

AND more importantly, take solace in that property tax stays local to town, county, and state

(as far as I know)

My property tax rates are about the same as they were in Cincy.  The funds go to a number of things including the county and the city school district.  I figure funding has to come from somewhere, Texas with no income tax has high property taxes.  Florida gets by on tourism.

The list is a little deceptive, showing only the highest rates and what the state average is.

My old home in Crook County is now about $18K/year.

I'm sure people in California pay much more than people pay in New Jersey because the property values are through the roof.

Ours here are cheap.

It's not like NJ is cheap... 

But yeah, the good thing about California's system is that not only are the property taxes not all that high, but owned property can never exceed 2% property tax increase per year. So if you buy, it's not like your property taxes are going to skyrocket in 10 years because your house doubled in value.

I hear rumblings at times that property tax should be forgiven, especially for older folks, like me.

Seems odd, folks want to find a way to burden rich people that don't pay their fair share.

Don't rich folks have the most property and with the highest values?

I assume that even the very wealthy can't find a loophole for property tax

Eh... I don't think we should debate tax policy. 

You know, politics and all. 

Rankings are one thing--those are factual comparisons. Future tax policy is different.
