I've lived in 3 and 4.  I'm not sure how they define "recreation" obviously.  None of the top 5 are very good for surfing or skiing (snow).  Cincy does have a slope at least.

I've never seen anyone surf on the Gulf coast, I'm sure folks try at times.

I heard how great surfing was in Hawaii too, the waves I've seen there are pretty modest though.  I went to the North Shore once, they had almost no waves, and the surfing contest they had scheduled had to be cancelled.

Anyway ..., I'm not sure what one could count as recreation ... in the eyes of etc.

Cincinnati did have a lot of pretty decent parks.
