Have you seen the plans for the new Engineering Hall, @SFBadger96 ?

Wow.

I spent most of my time in these areas of campus. Pretty darn nice.

The tour when I took my son to Purdue over the summer was... Different. There's a LOT of stuff now that wasn't there 25 years ago!

But at least when we did the engineering tour they took us in to the EE building the back way (the way I used to go in) with the painted brick and exposed ducts... Ahh, brought back memories!

My neighbor took me to see GaTech (the retired prof dude).  It also is massively different, I last walked around there in 1975, it was a dump nearly everywhere.  Now, very nice.

His office was a bit of a dump in the physics building but I think science offices tend to be dumps with papers everywhere stacked around.

These Georgia universities are among the 50 best in the country – WSB-TV Channel 2 - Atlanta

This ranking makes quite the splash, I've seen it referred to pretty widely as if it's a something.  And it's probably not terrible, it's a rough guide I sumise.

Great Lakes Brewing a few weeks back released their most celebrated and critically lauded suds OKTOBERFEST - A celebration of malty goodness
And I rank them No. 1 - that is all

Ayinger's the best Oktoberfest in the world.

There are lots and lots of other good ones though, of course.

New building - College of Engineering - University of Wisconsin-Madison
I'm embarrassed hit has taken me so long to respond to this. The building looks great. There are several great buildings on the UW campus. That said, the campus does not have a clear through line in its architecture. Everything looks different than everything else. (That's a bit of an overstatement, but that is the affect). And there are several atrocious brutalist concrete structures that are an affront to all that is decent in architecture.

my buddy brought me a case of the New Glarus octoberfest - Staghorn  $40

Bavarian Octoberfest

100% Natural - great Midwestern and European Malts, the world's most expensive hops, fresh yeast from Germany, and clear Wisconsin water make our Staghorn Octoberfest "Wisconsin's Real Red." You will find absolutely no additives, preservatives or artificial agents of any kind in this bier. Staghorn is brewed using the time honored methods to release the smooth flavor of our roasted malts.
This Octoberfest combines a smooth amber body with a clean, crisp finish. Be sure to hold this one up to the light of any harvest moon and enjoy "Wisconsin's Real Red."
"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

There are lots and lots of other good ones though, of course.
I've got 10 gallons of it that just finished fermentation and is being cooled down to go through the lagering phase. It's more of a traditional Marzen than a modern Festbier. What they serve at the actual festival tends to be lighter in color, flavor, and ABV, than it was back in the day.

Another 3-4ish weeks and I should have it on tap.

I usually plan out 3+ batches of beer allowing me to re-use yeast from batch to batch. In this case it was a pilsner that's already on tap. Then [obv] the Oktoberfestbier. I was thinking after my San Antonio trip of making the 3rd beer be a Shiner Bock clone, but it looks like Shiner Bock is based on a Mexican Lager yeast rather than what I'm working with right now (the Weihenstephan lager strain). Might try to look for a Ziegen Bock clone recipe to see if it'll use my yeast. Or might just brew the Shiner with my yeast and acknowledge that it's not REALLY a clone at that point.

The 60's crap on campus is really shitty.

You got a problem with Van Hise, I take it?

;)

Me too.

Yeah I prefer traditional Oktoberfest/Marzen to the modern festbiers.  But I haven't ever been to Oktoberfest in Bavaria, so I haven't had to worry about it.  I buy and drink what I like here in the good ol' USofA.

I've been to both the Hofbrauhaus in Munich as well as Weihenstephan in Freising.

Sadly, it was in late October, which means it was well after the actual Oktoberfest had concluded.

The Nuke Engineering building is also pretty ugly, right next to the gorgeous ME building.

But that Nuke Engineering program is among the best on the planet.
