Made a quick trip to the beach today with my son. He’s in his mid 20’s now. 

We figured this would probably be the last hot summer day of the season. Water was perfect temperature wise. We just hung out under a shade, drank beer and listened to music and enjoyed the waves. 

I often take it for granted how close we live to the beach and ocean. Good way to end the summer.

I know you’re only half joking but the surf generally starts to cool down now. I’ve been in the water in late Sept and it was warm and comfortable but generally speaking October it starts to get too cool for me to enjoy it.

That's great.  Do all of it you can, while you can.

My dad's not been doing well, so I've been trying to make it home more weekends to visit him as much as he's up for.  Haven't pinned down what's going on with him yet, but my wife is pretty concerned it's The Thing We Don't Want.  He's in a bizarre catch-22 situation right now where B requires A first, but A can't happen because of C, and C is likely caused by B, which would need to be treated, but it can't, because A.....repeat, repeat.  Mrs. DeT thinks the neurosurgeon dropped the ball in not biopsying him immediately and scheduling him so far out, now he has other complications that prohibit a biopsy, at least for now.  Today he'll see the oncologist who will have the unusual and difficult task of trying to diagnose him without the benefit of tests that really should be run.  

Anyway, all that to say, fathers and sons spending time together make me happy.  Glad y'all had a good day.  

Today is the last full day of Summer and for as hot as it's unseasonably been - Good Riddance

As noted in Grump, "we" are getting bike lanes.  I can sit on my balcony and watch how often a bike passes, and then post than on FB.  This will of course generate quite the reaction from some bike lovers who claim it's used "all the time".

The other street with new bike lanes is not viewable from my balcony, only when we walk up that way.  My wife always cautions me when crossing it to watch out for ALL THE BIKES. 

I more often see a bike on the sidewalk that in the bike lane.
