It is a myth that the original rings through which engineering grads stick their hand contain remnants of the first Quebec Bridge.

The U of Minnesota CEGE ceremonial ring contains steel from the wreckage of the 35W bridge that collapsed only blocks from campus on August 1, 2007. That really rattled me, having graduated only weeks earlier and driven over that bridge hundreds of times.
