On chili:

chili full of beans (a la bean soup) sucks.  It sucks.  Beans should not be the main component.  (Beans in every spoonful)

chili with beans in it is good. Some beans.  Let's say a bean in 50% of spoonfuls.

chili with no beans is good.  Meat is the solo star.  Yes, please.  Call it what you want, but it's not worse without beans.

We drove to Monroe to give a consignment place some of my wife's stuff, OK fine, it's a nice store.  The lady there suggested lunch at the "French" place next door, which turns out to be remarkably good, and quasi-American French.

Le Gabrielle Crepes & Waffles

Now, when I lived here, Monroe was a village about to dry up and blow away, but now it's a bustling updated small town with some interesting shops and restaurants and trees on the main drag.  It's quasi-outside Atlanta, barely.

Monroe, Georgia - Wikipedia

Quite a few towns outside Atlanta 1-2 hours have really come back to life, and it's nice to see, Dahlonega, Blue Ridge, Clarkesville, Monroe ... Athens.

Great to see Jack White live again today.   a remaining beacon of actual Rock & Roll music.    very good show.   haven't seen him in 20 years easily.

My wife and my own DLs were coming up for renewal in a couple months, we couldn't do it on line.  So, today we went off downtown to the DL place, it was pretty crowded ... got in and out in 12 minutes.  We were both amazed, again.  $34 for 8 years.  The place was upgraded since 8 years ago, more kiosks and computer stations.  I had to take the eye test, no problem.

In Ohio, this could be a bit of an adventure each time, took 30 minutes minimum.  To celebrate, we went by Kroger and got sushi.

It's similar here. It's one person, and you're out in 10 minutes.

In Illinois, we had to talk to ~8 different people and wait in ~8 different lines to do so. IL DMV could be 2-3 hours - it's common for people to take a half day off to go there.

Not grumpy anymore.
