Same.  I'd wager that amongst Louisianans, beef stew without rice is probably very uncommon.  Almost anything with even a remotely soupy makeup is going over rice.
Sure like gumbo.

But look out, we're now about to be chastised by badgerfan who will turn this into the grumpster thread if we mention gumbo and/or stews over rice.

I think the die-hards call it bean soup.
or chili soup up here in the great white north

Maybe I'm half cajun.

It shouldn't be at the top in my opinion. Marathon, Islamorada, and Largo are my keys of choice.

The first two are Old Florida. Largo is not quite that but has a cool vibe and lots to do.
OK, I'll ask for some input before I book a hotel in Key West

Yeah I only make Frito pie.  People who put Fritos on top are freaks and should be shunned.

But the most common for me, and my favorite way, is to make cornbread, cut a piece, put it in the bottom of the bowl.  Spoon the chili over that base.  Then add raw onions and jalapenos to the top.  Finally, mix it all up a little bit with a spoon.

We usually make cornbread with chili and my wife likes to do it that way.  I eat it strictly as a side, but I can imagine mashing it up with the chili would be pretty good.

I like beef stew served with a side of very crusty bread.  You can dip, or spoon some stew on top.

Marathon has a lot to do if you like being on the water. Different strokes.

I would not call Key West family-friendly by any stretch.
I might take my daughters - but they're in their 30s now
a few years have passed since they took a boat ride on Lake Michigan

My grandma used to have a sort of joke where she'd tell us she was going to cook rice.  Subsequently, when we'd ask her what she was making, she'd say "I don't know yet, but I'm starting the rice."

Now I want some Jambalaya. A place here is solid, not unreal, but even solid Jambalaya is damn good.
