Very happy today because I found out last night that my daughter, who made All-Region band this year but missed the cutoff to advance to try out at Area, has been bumped up one slot, and will now advance to Area after all.  Apparently one of the 3 kids who finished above her at all-region orhcestra, won't be available.  She was the first one out, but now she's in.  I told her she "pulled a Maverick" and she had no idea what I meant.

It's been her dream to make State in her final year, and this gets her one step closer.  She actually felt she had a pretty awful audition when she was one place out of advancing and she knows she can do a lot better.  Hoping she has a great day when the Area auditions happen in January!
Best of luck to your daughter!

I've got three winners:
(1) my son asked for some help on an essay he's writing. It's pretty good. He waited too late to edit, and as a result the first 80% is better than the last 20%, but it's a pretty good effort for a freshman in college. And he cares enough about it to ask me for advice, something I think he's done once--maybe twice--in his life. So that's cool.

(2) it is egg nog season. Tried mine with the Kraken spiced rum the other day. Tasty.

(3) it is also Costco peppermint bark season. Very tasty. And I've managed not to just eat the whole damn box in one sitting (need to have some left when my eldest gets home from college next Saturday).

Kid got accepted to Tennessee, along with decently large merit-based scholarship and acceptance to the Honors program... So now he's got option #2 alongside A&M.

Picked up a quarter beef last week. Then I saw the price of ribeyes at Fareway last night. I'm very happy with what I paid for the quarter!

Weather report said fog this morning when I woke up, so I decided I would ride my bike to work (about 18 miles--I do this a few times a week, but generally not in crappy weather). Rained on me the whole time. Bus drove by me and completely drenched me with a wave from a puddle. Made me laugh. So silly it made me happy. But I'm kinda weird like that.

Train. But I've thought about hopping on that bus a few times when the ride has sucked more than I thought it would.

How long does it take you to ride your bike 18 miles, what time do you have to be at work, and does your deodorant hold up when you get there?
