42 years ago today, July 20, 1984, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong posed with their "Bronze Taco" award at a press conference on Melrose Boulevard in Hollywood, California, to promote their upcoming film, Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers, which opened in theaters the following week. The photograph was taken by famed photographer Ron Galella.

Marin and Chong had achieved massive success throughout the 1970s and early 1980s through their stand-up comedy, comedy albums, and film franchise, becoming one of the most recognizable comedy duos of the era. The Corsican Brothers, released July 27, 1984, marked their sixth feature film together and their final movie collaboration before the duo split up later that decade.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 

Marie Besnard Charged with Multiple Murders (1949)
Between 1927 and 1947, 13 of Besnard's family members and friends died under mysterious circumstances, and she became a wealthy woman by inheriting their fortunes. She gave bizarre explanations for some of the deaths, such as claiming that two people had eaten lye they mistook for a dessert. Her second husband remarked that he thought she was poisoning him, prompting the police to investigate his death. When they exhumed his body, they found arsenic. Why was Besnard acquitted of murder charges?
