Off the cuff, I can't think of a lot of those I know about or have tried, but I did enjoy Prime's The Man In The High Castle, which is a clear example of the alt-history genre.  (spoilers!)    Although--though it's not apparent at first--it's also sci-fi.  But I think even if that aspect hadn't come into it, I'd have still enjoyed it.
Yeah that's another one I took a look at but couldn't get into because of the alt history aspect.

My brain just isn't willing to suspend the disbelief in those instances.

Lots of folks like that stuff, it just isn't my cup of tea.

We recently watched Prime's new Jack Ryan movie, Ghost War, and I thought it was good and would be enjoyable for anyone who liked the tv series.  I can't figure out why it has such a low IMDB rating.  I've found those ratings to generally be a reliable indicator over the years--movies cracking a 7.0 or above I'll probably like, same for tv shows cracking 8.0 or above.  Generally.  The Jack Ryan tv show has an 8.0, which seems about right.  This new movie has an astonishing 5.7 (usually a pretty crappy movie), but I just don't see it.

I quit the Jack Ryan series when I recognized how different the characters were from the original.  Really aggravated me.

At some point--I'm such a WWII buff--I thought about actually concocting a story of an alternate ending and going forward.  Only to find out it had already been done in the 1960's re The Man in the High Castle.  So, I did watch that one with great interest.

The original what?  Harrison Ford movies?  Tom Clancy novels?

If you mean the books, I never read them, but in which case I'd ask, did you like the Harrison Ford or Ben Affleck movies?

I know a lot of people who didn't like the Tom Cruise Jack Reacher movies because of how different they were from the books.  Many of the same people like the Amazon series better because they say it's closer to the source material.  I haven't read those either, and maybe I'd care if I had, but I'm fine with both versions.

In this case, both.  I'll save further response for political thread, should I ever go there.  JMO, that's why it never caught traction.

In my recent, very vague, half-hearted endeavor to take in classic films I've never seen, I watched Lawrence of Arabia last weekend.  Very interesting film for 1962.  It's described as an epic, and those are always a challenge in the cinematic medium, I think.  This in particular felt like it would've benefited from being a mini-series, or more ambitiously, a two or three season series of 6-8 episodes each.  There was an awful lot of importance to the story that got packed in the final 20-30 minutes, even.  Felt like it could've used some room to breathe there.  But the movie is already 3.5 hrs long, so I guess they did what they could given the constraints.

Also watched the first episode of Spider Noir on Amazon last night with Nicholas Cage.  Enjoyed it enough that we're gonna keep going.  Cage is getting old.

My fam went in on a v See Box for father's day.  $300, and I'm seeing the ability to cancel a helluva bunch of my streaming services.  Just getting rid of YouTubeTV alone it would pay for itself in a few months.
