Im not sure A New Hope is one of the top 5 Star Wars movies

I think you just proved not all opinions are valid.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.  I put it #5, and it's a hell of a lot closer to #1 than #11.  But long parts of it are an absolute grind to get through

I really enjoyed Train Dreams, surprised Joel Edgerton didn't get an acting nominee.

But man, you do not feel great when it ends

  • Empire Strikes Back
  • Revenge of the Sith
  • Rogue One
  • Return of the Jedi
  • A New Hope
  • Solo
  • The Force Awakens
  • Phantom Menace
  • Attack of the Clones
  • The Last Jedi
  • Rise of Skywalker

I could forgive #4 on the basis of nostalgia, or some other silliness, but #2 and #6 make a mockery of your opinions on the subject. #2 in particular, but #6 is still wildly high, even if there's a big gap between your #5 and #6, and even if #6 is a lot closer to #11 than #3.

Are you entitled to your opinions? Sure. Will they force me to question why I come here at all (like that stupid politics thread did)? No. Do I still respect you as a poster? Absolutely. But your Star Wars opinions are a farce.

I cancelled my Disney+ subscription a while ago and don't see renewing it anytime soon. One thing that occurs to me is that I've only seen episodes 6-9 once each. Same with Solo. I own the first six on DVD--and still have a (barely) working DVD player. I've probably watched the prequels 2-3 times each. Each time I've hoped they would be better than I remembered them. Each time I've been proven wrong. The second is the worst, but they are all bad. I have no desire to watch Solo again. I would watch A New Hope, Empire, or Rogue One just on the basis of boredom--and I might end up watching Return of the Jedi, just to finish the set. The forest moon of Endor is incredibly stupid, but the climactic scene on the Emperor's bridge is solid.

Anyway, I'm sure I could rehash a bunch of tired arguments about those movies, but, mostly, I just don't have any desire to watch the newer stuff--with the exception of Rogue One--again, and I would skip past them during a doom scroll of what random thing to watch some slow night at home. There is so much more, better, mindless drivel available than any of them.

All pure opinion, of course. But strongly held. What good is an opinion if it isn't?

I just now got Disney+ for the first time, only because it's bundled with Hulu for an almost free-price for a customer like me who is using Hulu anyway.

Previously, it seemed that most of Disney's draw was Star Wars and Marvel franchise, and while I like a considerable number of the Marvel movies, I'm not big on rewatching movies in general, and I gravitate toward platforms with a lot of solid TV-show content.  However, soon there won't be a Hulu, it will just be Disney, and it looks like the content is already merging, because there's already a lot of stuff on Disney that's really a Hulu thing.  So I might have to get used to the idea of a Disney sub.

fwiw, I think it's a good idea to have a DVD player (and/or Blu-ray) in the coming days.  I think there's going to be value at some point in not having a catalog entirely dependent on streaming services.  Owning physical media is something I see in the future as having been a smart move in retrospect.

There is plenty of good content on Disney+, it's just not the content that I'm looking for in my life right now.

Eh. As someone who says they're "not big on rewatching movies in general", why would investing in both physical media and hardware to play it back, be all that important?

For me this is why I love my Kindle. I love reading, and most Kindle books are both cheaper than paperback, and I don't need to dispose of them after I read them. Certain things (like cookbooks) need to be physical media, and those are things we keep so we can refer to them on demand. But novels? Nah... I don't care if they go away because I re-read novels I've already read so rarely that if I had to re-buy something it wouldn't be catastrophic.

There really is.  We keep it for the grandkids.  It's worth it for them....in spades.

I occasionally find myself watching a few things there.  Particularly "The Greatest Game Ever Played".

HULU content sucks, IMO.
