I would suspect if the Trump team thought discovery would be advantageous to their political and media powers, they would have kept going.  The agreement is not very much money and it's for a Presidential library.

On the other hand, something MAJOR in discovery would have been worth far more than this politically.

You may be right but I’m sure there are things CBS did not want to see become public.
And they really didn’t want the pol who can block their big merger deal to feel his palms were not greased.

This is my not very hot take. I think it’s bad for the president to sue on a non-sensical legal theory and then get an eight-figure settlement. I think it would be bad for a democratic president or a republican one. It’s corrosive to our first amendment and reeks of grift.

Really an ugly outcome there.
the uglier outcome for Paramount would have been go to trial and then during discovery the collusion between 60 Minutes producers and the Harris campaign/handlers was found. they are simply stroking a small check (for them) to make it go away.

daily reminder 1,438,484,596,147,000 that the mainstream media is a complete and utter joke and not your friend. the mainstream media is a powerful propaganda tool that has existed since the mid 20th century on not to inform the public but to restrict and control the flow of information and control the spectrum/parameters of allowable conversation/debate/public discourse in order to manufacture the consent of the governed on behalf of the uniparty establishment.

unfortunately for them there was this thing created in the 1980s which really took off in the mid 2000s called the internet which has completely shattered their vice grip on the flow of information and they have lost it forever. the only people who still pay attention to mainstream media are the boomers and well, they are almost dead- so as soon as they all die off- which will be very soon- the mainstream media will officially be 100% dead and not just mostly dead like it is now- and this country and the world at large will become much better off for it.

Almost assuredly wouldn’t have gotten as far as discovery.
yeah- because Paramount was always going to settle it and make it go away.

Wouldn't the Trump camp have highly desired this outcome?  Wouldn't this be worth more than a few millions?  The political capital would be enormous.

How many heads have rolled at CBS so far?

CBS knew exactly what they did they were fired.

This settlement was two things. Not getting to discovery (as stated) and trying to retore what little credibility they had before this all happened.

The "never Trump" crowd will play CBS as a victim, of course, and maybe even watch the network more.

The much larger win for the Trump camp would have been evidence of clear collusion in the back rooms.

We don't know the whole story, but people were guilty of something and were fired.

That's all we know. I wish we could know more, but it's over. Oh well.

Likely at least a few years away given how slowly these cases move.
OK, the choice is between:

1.  $16 million now for a library, or

2.  Clear discovery of major malfeasance by a major news network in 3 years.

I'd prefer item 2 were I them.

So they were sued, but the lawsuit is so flimsy It can’t actually say it was about anything illegal? Seems telling.

As for insisting of firing means guilt, I’ll spell it out with the Chicago example. if a firm in the city had fired someone because that person has spoke poorly of Mike Madigan, and the company worried Madigan would hurt their business as a result, would that person be guilty of something? I guess by this logic, yes?
