Paramount says it has agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over the editing of CBS’ “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris in October.
Really an ugly outcome there.

Every semi-functional legal system in the world favors wealth and the wealthy, it's not something novel in the US.

It's not the only advantage the wealthy have of course, but it's one.  Most wealthy don't break laws because they don't have to, and the penalty to them IF they got caught is quite severe.  IF they got caught and then convicted.

ICEBlock is designed to be an "early warning system" for users when ICE is operating nearby, creator Joshua Aaron said. Users can add a pin on a map showing where they spotted agents, along with optional notes, like what officers were wearing or what kind of car they were driving. Other users within a five-mile radius will then receive a push alert notifying them of the sighting.

As I understand this Bill, amidst all the angst and celebrations, among other things it puts a pretty modest work requirement (80 hours a month) on Medicaid and SNAP for "able bodied".  I have also read most Medicaid recipients already have a job, they work, they are just poor.  Clinton signed a similar bill in 1996 dealing with welfare work requirements.

So, how does this throw however many million off Medicaid?

How so?
Well, the thing that was being sued over is functional legal nonsense. It’s protected speech in a range of ways.

but by many accounts, Paramount is folding because they are under the belief that if they do not placate the president financially, his administration will use its regulatory powers to stand in the way of some business they want to do.

Litigation is very expensive.  Paying often is the cheaper course, and they won't admit any wrongdoing.

Without delving into the many millions number, the thought is that you can create a paperwork snarl that effectively limits actual usage.

Heavy bureaucracy can often be a very effective deterrent. At least that’s the theory.

They are settling in order to avoid discovery.  It would have been fascinating to see the internal communications and possibly even coordination between the network and the Harris campaign.

That is true, though in this case, there’s a pretty good chance it could get thrown out before it got expensive.

But sometimes there are… Other concerns.
