You and I have figured it out. Most people I know from back in the Chicago area have lived there all of their lives.

I'm thankful to have the wherewithal to live wherever I want to live.

The people of downstate Illinois mostly do not, and they would love to be a part of Indiana.

It's not a question of whether the people in the Southern portions want out. They most certainly do, and they are tired of Chicago running the show.
the minnesoootans in the southern most row of counties want to be annexed by Iowa

If this bill gets passed, I officially give up on people who are duped in supporting against their own self-interest.

I can't.

There are no words.

People tend to like to live around the people they grew up around. It’s kind of charming actually.

it also strikes me that they don’t really want to be part of Indiana. They would like a red state legislature. But thankfully, we don’t redraw state borders just because you want that. because it was just lead to more cascading nonsense.

Every so often, some part of a state makes some noise about secession to be part of some other state, eastern Oregon -> Idaho.  There is a good reason is doesn't happen.

It did happen once, long ago.  I don't view these things as serious.

I guess you are referring to the bill in the Senate right now?  How does one "give up on people" exactly?  You used to treat them a certain way and now won't?

I would personally vote against my own self interest if I thought it was more beneficial to other folks.

It's not a bad thing, but in Illannoy, it's never going to happen. There is no hope for that failing state.

Well, if that’s something that really bothers them, they are not chained to their land.

And if it doesn’t bother them enough to overcome other concerns, well, thankfully, the happenings of the state government do not actually have that large of an impact on the daily lives of most people, unless they let their politics become an overwhelming share of their personality/mindshare.

Illannoy residents suffer one of the highest tax burdens in the country, which is a direct result of the state government.

The state has more taxing bodies than any other (by my last check when I lived there).

Take a look at the public pension debt.

The state government is exactly the cause of why Illannoy keeps losing House seats every cycle.

People outside of the Chicago and St. Louis metros don't vote for this crap. They just have the misfortune of being born where they were born.

This is mostly true for the federal government, but not at all true for state government and local/municipal government.  In fact I can immediately think of one ridiculous law the Texas state legislature just passed 5 days ago that will have immediate and lasting negative effects on my personal life.

Statewide ban against all "communication devices" in Texas public schools.  No smartphones, no iPads, no Apple watches, etc.  My kids use their iPads to take notes alongside their school-issued laptops, and we often times need to communicate with them during a schoolday regarding doctor visits, plans for transportation, and whatnot.

This is a solution that went in search of a problem.  It's true that these devices can be a distraction in the classroom, but our kids' schools have all managed it in a very satisfactory way.  Some teachers don't worry about it at all, they don't find it to be an issue, and other teachers simply take them away if it ever becomes an issue.  There was absolutely no need for a comprehensive, heavy-handed state law regarding the matter.

Again, the solve of that isn’t going to be redrawing state borders. Democrats have lived in red states and Republicans have lived in blue states since forever. Just part of the system. If those people in southern Illinois, want to change it, they can develop a policy package to flip big chunks of Chicago.

Pols spending time and money on the changing border topic is just using public funds to play with themselves.

State borders aren't going to change.  It is possible, but a very uphill climb that won't happen.
