Was catching up on this browsing through all the weekend posting I missed.  I'm surprised to find no discussion of the tragic incident with the Minnesota congresswoman.

As Badger would say, fry him.  No tolerance for political violence, much less assassination.

It also seems like often each side is trying to slippery slope things. So you’re not so much agreeing to a compromise as a step in the other side’s direction.

To me, compromise means both sides get something, and give something, there is no net slippery slope.  For example, on Social Security, do two things:

1.  Raise eligibility age like Republicans want, and
2.  Add a surtax on income over $400 K like Democrats want.

Out of curiosity:
Do you mean a surtax "luxury tax" on incomes over $400k or did you mean "raise the cap on SSI to $400k?  

Personally, I think the cap should be eliminated but I also think that probably wouldn't raise much money.
