I have family in Illinois like that.
It seems to me they're still the exception and not the rule (how overboard they go on several issues, and advocating for some extremely unpopular issues), like Bill Maher said, maybe 10%, hopefully 15% at the most. Yet party leadership and news organizations would lead me to think this is just what the Democrats are now. I mentioned to someone here I like via PM a while back that while we may disagree on some key things, I respect him greatly. I can't help but think most of the Democrats I know such as him aren't really represented by their party anymore.
I mean, a ton of Republican leaders don't align with me either in many ways, but it's not like we're worlds apart.
