At least the Bee cuts both ways.
They do good work.  As does the Onion.  Problem with both is when they lack material they just lean into their base.  Carlin once said comedy is about punching up, and I think that's why doing balanced comedy is tough.  The Bee joins South Park as the best comedy able to punch both ways.  As far as stand up goes, I think Bill Burr is there too.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday urged California cities to clear homeless encampments, escalating once again his efforts to address an intractable issue of his time in office: the makeshift tents that line underpasses, parks and local streets up and down the state.

Newsom’s administration drafted a local law that counties, cities and towns can directly adopt or modify to achieve the Democratic governor’s goals. He’s also releasing $3.3 billion in voter-approved funds to expand housing and treatment options for homeless residents.

“The time for inaction is over. There are no more excuses,” Newsom said in a statement.

Newsom, a former mayor of San Francisco, made tackling homelessness a priority of his administration when he took office in 2019 and since then, Democratic leaders in the state have also moved toward cracking down on encampments. The state accounts for a quarter of the homeless population in the United States, with more than 187,000 Californians in need of housing.

The typical asbestos-related mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining that holds your lungs. It's not actually a lung cancer, it's a cancer of the sack around your lungs. The lay-person version of what happens is that the cancer causes the sack to harden and grow inward, essentially slowly squeezing your lungs until you can no longer breath.

Asbestos fibers are apparently quite good at affixing themselves to the mesothelial sack, which, presumably, has something to do with attacking the cells in it.

Again, take this with a grain of salt, because by this time I might be basically ChatGPT, potentially hallucinating a string of things that sound good but were never actually covered in the training data.

That's a good explanation and the only thing I'd add is that the fibers over time are damaging the tissue, creating scarring, which is what the hardening you mentioned is about.  The tissue can no longer expand and contract like it's supposed to, because it's all scar tissue, which is Not-Great for anything related to lungs.  I don't remember if it's the asbestos fibers themselves which ultimately cause mutation, or if it's the tissue scarring.  It's that scarring that takes decades, during which someone won't ever notice it, until one day they're more out of breath than they should be and don't understand why.  It's already game over at that point.

Myself, I do not know a lot about asbestos uses, advantages, or what it would take to rid the world of it and how feasible that is or isn't.  I only know the patients who've been affected by it.  Or, should I say, I knew them.  And I despise the stuff.  Which is not to suggest any course of action, because that's territory far beyond what I'm qualified to comment on.  Just emotionally, I loathe asbestos.

Our neighbor has prostate cancer and is undergoing proton treatment for it currently.  His prognosis he says is pretty good.

There is a proton therapy center about a mile south of us.

What asbestos-related disease, and particularly mesothelimoa does to people is impossible to brush away. It's brutal.
Its applications to limit fire risk made a great deal of sense if you didn't know its risk, and most people didn't back when it was frequently used. There is still a debate among some people who believe it can be safely used, but that debate was lost in the mind of public opinion long ago. And reasonably so.
