some folks are smart, just not smart enough to keep their mouths shut - Trump might be in this category
"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

Some smart folks have views different from mine on say economics, it's not uncommon at all.  It sort of makes sense to many to have government controlling the economy and have central planning versus this "invisible hand" concept.  I think many smarter younger folks think government should be deciding a lot more than they do.  They may be smart but perhaps less well educated in economic history and how things really work, in my view.

I mean, maybe folks could get by with only 2 dolls instead of 30 if it came to it.

I find the broad concepts of "socialism" to be fairly prevalent among younger college educated folks.  I prefer the term "central planning".  They deride how citizens make their economic choices (like spending at Walmart and buying beer and large TVs etc.) and think broadly government could make better decisions for "us".  AOC is clearly in this camp.  They also think Europe is socialist, which is not true in my opinion, using the normal traditional definition of the term.

Just saw a clip of this guy speaking. Reminded me to be thankful to have fled 5+ years ago.

I'd say worse because she's actually smart.
Ugh.  Admittedly I don't watch her extensively (MTG) but the little I do watch color me unimpressed.  I consider her and AOC different sides of the same coin.

That being said, I used to really dislike Trump, but now I dislike him far less.  So maybe I've judged her too harshly.

Not saying I like her. I don't, at all. She's smart but she's nuts.

We based our notions of who is smart or not in politics mostly based on how they sound when speaking (and of course whether they mostly agree with us).

I got to know our Representative in Ohio a bit and heard several times he was not very bright (he's no longer in office).  He did some nice things for our family, so I won't speak ill of him, but he didn't sound very smart when speaking.  I met our then Senator a few times, he's now Ohio governor (Dewine), he struck me as reasonably intelligent, and he also did some nice things for our family (like writing a recommendation to law school for one kid).  I met John McCain briefly and heard him speak in person, I thought he was reasonably intelligent.  He also said some things he knew the crowd wouldn't like hearing.

Anyway, for me, it's facile to claim "X is dumb as a rock" SOLELY because they disagree with your positions politically.  I think Liz Warren is probably pretty smart and I agree with her on almost nothing.  I think Bernie is dumb as a rock.

What is the pitch that she’s smart? Is there a basis for why I should think that?

I’m actually just asking as curiosity.

Mostly based on activity before being elected.

It's hard to get a good read on MTG without major digging, as most stuff on her is written in a hit piece sort of way.

I've read a lot of stuff she has literally said and view most of it as inane stupidity combined with weird conspiracy notions.
