At the end of the day, we the electorate are to blame.  If someone ran on a clearly defined platform of doing what is necessary to get the deficit under control, they would get smoked.  So we get what we vote for.
Nobody can win on that platform.  I actually thought Trump 1.0 would do it, but ultimately you cant get to that office without being bought and paid for.  Clinton sort of did, and he did the best job at paying it down.  He is the type you need, an economic centrist Democrat.  That candidate aint survivng any sort of primary anymore

Have any VA workers been hired back?  Of the 80,000.  Many are veterans themselves.  Any?

I figure no President or Congress is going to balance the budget, or even close the deficit significantly, any time "soon".  To cut spending is not doable.  To raise revenue is not doable.  Ergo ...

We're headed to economic collapse, I just don't know when.  Imagine a recession happening soon with most of the fiscal spigots already turned nearly wide open.

I think the main underlying reason for "Hauser's Law" is that raising taxes takes money out of the economy obviously and thus slows the economy and thus reduces income which is what we basically tax.  Corporate taxes contribute a relatively small amount to total tax revenue.  And like tariffs, corporations just pass that along to the ultimate customer.

I really don't see a solution, at best, maybe we can grow GDP faster than the debt expands.

LINCOLN — Governor Jim Pillen, a champion for agriculture and Nebraska ethanol, released the following statement after the EPA announced that an emergency waiver has been granted to allow E15 sales at gas stations this summer.

“The benefit of a nationwide market is massive for Nebraska ethanol – and every family in our country filling up their tank. This emergency waiver is a big boost for Nebraska’s producers and will allow consumers to benefit and save from the E15 advantage thanks to lower costs at the pump. The Trump Administration continues to go to bat for America’s farmers – and this is yet another example of a strong partnership that’s earning results for agriculture.”

Earlier this month, Gov. Pillen joined a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from a bipartisan group of governors asking Administrator Lee Zeldin to issue an emergency waiver to help drivers in the summer.

Nebraska is one of several Midwest states approved to sell E15 year-round starting April 28. Establishing a nationwide waiver will help provide a stable supply of fuel and stem shortages and price hikes during the busy summer driving season.

From nearly everything I have read, ethanol in gasoline is not good, at all.  Lower mpgs, lower power, some issues with gaskets in older vehicles, not energy positive, no environmentally positive, just farmer positive.

hopefully we don't import corn or other products to create ethanol
I've read than over 50% of Iowa's corn goes to ethanol - that's a helluva lot of corn

My buddy that works for Poet in the ethanol industry told me about this mod for my C8.
I didn't believe him at first.  I won't do the mod unless I need to actually work on the motor - I'd guess never

Ethanol has a lower energy value than gasoline, it's already partially oxygenated obviously.  It does have higher octane, which would be leveraged.

E85 is much less expensive than 93 octane premium - so it costs about the same since E85 doesn't get the same MPG
same cost - better performance

Newer boats are supposed to be able to handle E10.  Both of my older boats were 90s models and I stayed away from it.  Since I was trailering I almost always filled up on land, and had to go to specific gas stations that had zero ethanol.

Our current boat stays on the water and is always fueled at the marine gas station so no issues.

While E85 is typically cheaper per gallon than gasoline it might be more expensive per mile. Since ethanol contains less energy per volume than gasoline, FFVs will generally get 15%-27% fewer miles per gallon when fueled with E85, depending on the car and the driver’s driving habits.

I was curious if this was based on the small margins in Congress, or because it is how President Trump wants to govern.

By this time in 2021 (similar small margins) President Biden signed 7 bills into law and 42 executive orders. So I think it’s a bit of both. Small margins make it harder to legislate, but President Trump has been way more proactive in issuing EOs.
