From what I've read, the death penalty isn't much of a deterrent to crime (vs life without).  Maybe that's wrong, dunno.  I've also read it costs more to execute than keep for 40+ years, which sounds rather odd.  Maybe that's wrong.

Carrying it out remains pretty rare.  One usually makes the news because of that, along with the usual vigils and protests etc.

I have a philosophical objections to allowing the State to execute an individual, but that doesn't mean I'm against it in practical terms.  But, if practically, it really is not a deterrent and not cheaper, I'm against it.

Most heinous crimes are state crimes, like the usual murder cases.

By semantics, you mean, “reality.” There are still people on federal death, and the admin can push for the federal penalties.

Also, the blood on hands doesn’t really make sense unless you’re being dramatic. The logic that unless the killer isn’t killed, the blood is actually on the hands of the people who don’t kill them? Doesn’t follow.

It’s sort of funny, I assumed when this place opened up to more politics, I assumed we’d get some nuance and policy talk. Instead when something starts down a policy road, it veers into a ditch of heated rhetoric. I suppose that’s why politics are what they are.
That would be good.

No, I stand by the statement. The Federal Death Penalty has been effectively abolished (unless you kill jews or blacks).

Biden commuted the Death Penalties of everyone on Federal Death Row with only three exceptions:
  • A guy who killed jews
  • A guy who killed blacks
  • The remaining Boston Marathon Bomber
Given that it takes decades for the Feds to get around to putting these animals down, the Federal Death Penalty has been effectively abolished.

Note that many of those on Federal Death Row got there for killing LEO's. Last night I attended an event honoring fallen LEO's, there were 186 in 2024. The animals who killed them should be put down but thanks to the policies of the pro-crime party, they will not. There is blood on the hands of everyone who supports them.

List of Federal Death Row Prisoners | Death Penalty Information Center

Three remaining on Federal death row.  But many capital crimes like murder are not Federal offenses except in specific cases.

Death Row Information

Just Texas alone has more than I counted.

As of January 1, 2025, there were 2,092 death row inmates in the United Statesincluding 46 women.[1] The number of death row inmates changes frequently with new convictions, appellate decisions overturning conviction or sentence alone, commutations, or deaths (through execution or otherwise).[2] Due to this fluctuation as well as lag and inconsistencies in inmate reporting procedures across jurisdictions, the information may become outdated.

Exhibit A on not letting it go and moving on.  But I see we have no teeth behind our policing here.

Please rename the thread to something accurate.

I hope for chat of policy, we get some level of histrionics, going on about blacks and Jews and animals.

We opened things up for this?

The White Sox are worse, and more painful to perceive, than any views posted here.

That's a stretch but depending on their platform interesting. Politicians have been on the take for so long and those two already have enough coin so theoretically couldn't be bought. Black mailed perhaps but not bought
