I didn't much care for Obama, but I thought he did a decent job as president, even if I didn't like a lot of his policies.
Same. The last president, whoever it was, was not good.

The TDS thing always fascinates me. It’s great branding.

You talk about him the way out loudest right wing voices talk about Dems, you’re clearly deranged.

It also cuts off the other side of the coin, which is accusing supporters of being some degree of deranged when we watch erratic behavior and the explanation is it’s just out and out genius.

A volatile environment isn't a wise investment strategy.  Trump is kicking the can down the road and in 30 days, who's to say it won't fall off another cliff?

I'll wait until volatility is lower.  Probably in 2029.
I missed this post.

If that's what you believe, you will never invest. I've been investing for 30+ years and the markets are always volatile.

I saw his reply, and I'm not knocking him, but I thought the same thing.  If you're investing long-term, well.....arguably any time is a good time to put some $ in, but in particular, any downturn is an excellent time.  You want to buy at those pullbacks if possible.

At some level, volatility is a good thing, and the markets don't actually move without it.  You want volatility, to an large extent.  I tried my hand at day-trading for a couple years, and while I never became great at it, I learned a lot of valuable stuff.  I feel like most people don't understand the underlying mechanics of markets and what makes them work and move.  But volatility is absolutely necessary.  Buyers and sellers have to overwhelm each other, or prices would never move and correct.  The only market that moves up like you want it to is technically a volatile one.  Volatility obviously pushes it down as well, but if you're looking at the long term, it's nothing but silly to worry about the downward moves.  They're just corrections.  That said, if we're talking about the long term, he's not much worse off investing now than if he'd have caught the bottom of this latest swing down.  The important thing is just to keep putting some $ in.

The best time to buy stocks was 5, 10, 15, 20, (however far back you want to go) years ago. The 2nd best time to buy is right now.

Yes.

Nothing to criticize there at all.

The only thing I'd add--which is not necessary and nobody should worry about who isn't curious about being more active--is there's a strategy of using liquid funds in relation to the market, where when the market drops a certain percentage, that determines that you invest a certain percentage over "normal."  If the market rises a certain percentage, you sell a certain percentage (and keep it  available for later re-investment).  It amounts to modifying "buy low, sell high" to "buy just a tad bit more low, sell just a tad bit more high."  It doesn't make much difference in the short run.  By the time 10 or 15 years go by, it starts outpacing steady investment noticeably.

Good performance on the market this week. Those who didn't get in missed out.

Oh well.

So in a bad dreadful week, ignore it, think long-term.
In a good week, celebrate it, sound investing.

Depending on your political leanings and who is in office.

Got it.
