I am somewhat interested in the mechanics that led to that. I read a bit about it, but wasn’t sure what helped there (it seems like some of it involved limit the roof replacement stuff and maybe shifting more costs to part-time residence, but it wasn’t totally clear)
It's my doing.

Anyway, last year we went down quite a bit due to wind mitigation. From like $7,500 to $5,600. We are now fully up to current codes, as of March 2024.

I noticed on the declarations page that they had us listed as seasonal residents - not true. We're full time. So, I've been paying more than I should have been since 2020.

I'm not getting that back...

Just got my homeowner's insurance bill. Dropped by $1500. Pretty happy about that.
mine jumped from $1700 last year to nearly $2500.  I'm checking other options.  It's not due for another 6 weeks.

The measles outbreak in rural West Texas has grown to 58 cases as of Tuesday, and eight people in neighboring eastern New Mexico also have been diagnosed with measles.

New Mexico health department spokesman Robert Nott said Tuesday that the agency hadn’t “identified any direct contact” between cases in its state and cases in Texas.

Measles is a highly contagious disease. Here’s what you should know about how to protect yourself against measles, as well as what’s happening in Texas and New Mexico.

Where is measles spreading?
The West Texas cases are concentrated in Gaines County, which has 45 infections. Terry County to the north has nine confirmed cases, while Lubbock and Lynn counties have a case each and Yoakum County has two.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said Monday that 13 people are hospitalized with measles.

State health officials say this outbreak is Texas’ largest in nearly 30 years. Health department spokeswoman Lara Anton said last week that cases have been concentrated in a “close-knit, undervaccinated” Mennonite community — especially among families who attend small private religious schools or are homeschooled.

The New Mexico cases are in Lea County, which borders Gaines County in Texas. The cases include a family of five that’s in isolation, the state health department said Tuesday, but none of those infected have needed to be hospitalized. Six people who have measles are not vaccinated, officials said.

Even though we are fully up to current code, the Big Boys won't touch us as the house was built in 1994.

I have GEICO for everything but my home. Home is Frontline.

Is that a company through GEICO?

No. They wanted to stick me with Citizen's (a company of last resort) and doing so would have messed up my Umbrella policy.

Wait, don’t we want them to be energy reliant on us?
should we want it? That is debatable. What is not debatable is we should not want it by the methods we have gone about achieving said goal.

what is also not debatable is they are morons for going along with it- because it is decisively against their own self interests. jumping head first off a cliff to pay 4-5x in energy costs when you already pay some of the highest costs for energy in the world is pretty fucking retarded. But hey, that’s the democracy hating fascist Eurotrash autocrats for you.

Trump administration has designated MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Sinola Cartel, and basically every cartel in Mexico as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

I have been begging for this for like 10+ years. Mexico is a corrupt 3rd world shit hole wholly owned & run by criminal drug gangs. And those criminal drug gangs spill over into the US and wreak nothing but havoc & devastation here.

Time to use US special forces and hunt them all down and wipe them off the face of the earth.

Mexico might actually become a real country if we take care of their trash for them.

The legislation, House Study Bill 158, moved out of an Iowa House subcommittee, where lawmakers said they expect changes to the bill. Under the current proposal, any adult person who knowingly brings a minor to a drag performance at a business can be charged with a class D felony. The owner or manager of an establishment who knowingly allows minors to attend drag shows could also be charged with a class D felony, and businesses could be fined $10,000 under the bill.

Many speakers advocating against the bill were against this premise — with many drag performers speaking about their experiences in age-appropriate drag shows. Other speakers said the bill’s definition of a “drag show” is far greater in scope than shows at LGBTQ pride events or those like “drag brunch” events.

The bill defines a drag show as a performance where “the main aspect of the performance is a performer who exhibits a gender identity that is different than the performer’s gender assigned at birth through the use of clothing, makeup, accessories, or other gender signifiers.” It also opens the definition of a performance to include singing, dancing, as well as reading or other performances “before an audience for entertainment.”

Maxwell Mowitz, representing the LGBTQ advocacy group One Iowa, said the broad language of the bill could mean that transgender people could be targeted under the law for public speeches or non-drag performances.

“First, what constitutes a performance?” Mowitz said. “I’m a transgender person. I was assigned female at birth, but I dress and live as a masculine person. So this bill targets me. This bill also defines performance as reading: Today, I’m reading testimony in front of a group of people, from the perspective of a trans person. … It seems to me that the language of this bill could be bent to make it illegal for a minor to attend an event in which I am speaking, including this very subcommittee, simply because I live ‘in drag,’ as a different gender than the sex that I was assigned at birth, which is drag according to this legislation.”

Mowitz also said the bill could prevent films like “Mrs. Doubtfire” or “Mulan” from being shown at public film screenings because it involves a person dressing as a gender different than that assigned at birth. Jim Obradovich, representing the Independent Venue Association of Iowa, said the legislation could also cut off access for children to works of classical art like Beethoven’s “Fidelio” and Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” because they contain characters who dress as another gender.

I heard that it was mostly undocumented immigrants, who by and large lack some of the more common vaccinations that are spreading to themselves. Everybody else who is vaccinated (IE everybody born after 1970 something) is already immune.
