What's strange to me is how they don't even want light shed on this stuff.  What money is going where, what it's for.  If anything, they should WANT it to be out in the open, just to prove that they are spending the money wisely.  Instead, from the reports that I'm seeing (in my acknowledged bubble), they are trying to to keep it obscured, still sending money to causes that Trump (the elected CEO of the country) has explicitly forbidden.

Hmm...a real head scratcher.  Can't imagine what might motivate such a thing........

I wonder if some of these politicians may be criminals?

That “access” isn’t about seeing something that could be hidden. It’s about being able to tinker with it.

To the second part, I suppose because giving someone with that many government related business entanglements who seems to have impulse control issues and little regard for rules wide control of government finances creates great opportunities for corruption. And frankly, Elon seems like a fella who would have no qualms with doing that sort of thing.

Shoot, a ton of this isn’t particularly legal, but we might just get to a point where no one wants to enforce the law.
Lmfao. What in the actual fuck are you going on about? Jesus Titty Fucking Christ what is this complete utter fucking nonsense. SpaceX and Starlink government contracts are minuscule in comparison to their competitors- and quite frankly neither company has actual competitors as they are best in class at what they do and as far as I know there is not a single other product that exists like Starlink in the entire fucking world. Literally the first and only commercially available low latency high-speed satellite internet provider in the entire fucking world. You do realize that Musk and SpaceX have reduced the cost of rocket launches by like...95 fucking percent, right?

And there is absolutely nothing illegal about the executive branch exercising it's power. What is illegal are activist judges trying to curtail the will of the people by trying to stop a duly elected President from doing what he promised.

It never ceases to amaze me just how fucking stupid or propagandized people in this country truly are.

The US federal gov't is nothing but a giant mob racket that extorts money from it's citizens through the barrel of a gun and threaten of prison time and there are literally trillions of dollars of waste and bloat and fraud in it every single fucking year. Time to take a fucking hatchet and chain saw to the entire thing.

No doubt there will be headaches that will need to be solved.  I'd posit that the DOEd has done a terrible job at advancing American Education and we need to find a better way.

Oh, I don't disagree that there are major problems with the DOE.  If I got into some of them I'd probably get the thread locked again.

I only wanted to point out that shutting something down that's cancerous and bloated is never the easy thing we want it to be.

Again....financial aid could come from the state (Texas, in our case), or federal financial aid could come from another department like the Treasury, or it could just go away in which case we probably shut down and lose our jobs.  The whole range and everything in between is on the table.  So they tell me.

Question for you, have you ever really ridden in one or had up-close exposure to one?  I have only rode in a Tesla once, and it practically blew my mind.  Not just the acceleration, but the FSD (full self driving) is really advanced.
Yes. One of my friends has a Model S, which is really nice. But if I'm buying an S, it's gonna be an M-B. Tesla is nowhere nearly appointed as the luxury cars available from M-B, BMW, Caddy, etc. And they are in the same price point. So, no thanks.

I've rented the 3 and it is trash. Rides like a tin can and handles like crap. I'd never have one.

The only one that looks nice is the Model S.

I pretty much agree and I'll say that Tesla's interiors suck. And the fully loaded Model S with all the features and performance package is like $130,000 and for that price you should get an interior that is lush and luxurious as it gets- and well you get shit. The technology and performance on the cars are incredible though. But to me for that money if I'm buying an EV I'd rather get the BMW i7 or Porsche Taycan. Better looking cars with much better interiors.

Fit and finish is an issue on Teslas.  If you're going to price yourself into the luxury brand market, then you're going to need to compete with similar quality as the luxury brand market competition.

Because there are only so many people who are going to pay the premium to buy Teslas just to say they have one, and that market is drying up.

Shoot, a ton of this isn’t particularly legal, but we might just get to a point where no one wants to enforce the law.

People seem to be under the mis-impression that this is all being done with no oversight.

The second part, I don't know.  Elon is certainly a character.  He strikes me as a guy who will rock the system as hard as he can and sulk about the restraints, but not someone who would blatantly defy it.  YMMV.  The idea that he's somehow "unvetted" or is accessing things he hasn't legally been given permission to appears to be false, as I've tried to look hard into the last couple of days.

The third part, I guess you're talking about the DOGE access?  It is legal, far as I can tell.  I'm no legal scholar, but I can read, and the EO is rather clear, the powers of the president are rather clear in the constitution, and the stuff that is being quibbled over is in the process of being adjudicated by the courts.  I don't think we're even approaching a point where no one enforces the law.  I would like to think that we're approaching the point where government agencies don't operate autonomously for decades and tell multiple congressmen/women to FO when they seek accountability, as multiple congresspersons from both sides have stated over the years.  We'll see.  I don't tend to be optimistic about that kind of thing in general, but who knows.

There seems to be a good bit of power of the purse interference. Separation of powers and such.

but if the last admin could have done this kind of thing and folks on the right would’ve said “I guess that’s legal“, I suppose they probably should’ve. But I don’t think that’s the case.

yeah agree. having said that, Tesla has lapped the field in terms of tech & performance. Their batteries & range are superior to every other EV out there right now as is their charging stations/charging infrastructure, their self-driving software, as is the performance. For example the Model S Plaid goes 0-60 in 1.99 seconds and tops out at 200mph. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S best 0-60 time is 2.3 seconds and tops out at 162mph. Model S Plaid is about $120k, Taycan Turbo S is around $210k.

That Porsche is more money and not as quick or fast but it looks way nicer, has a much nicer interior, and it drives/handles well like a Porsche....it drives incredibly. The Tesla....not as much.

Can't have it all though. And there is zero doubt what Musk has done with Tesla is just flat out remarkable. The guy built the first successful US auto manufacturer in like 150 fucking years. Not since the days of GM, Ford, & Chrysler has there actually been a US auto manufacturer that actually made it. And point blank period EV's would be nowhere near where they are right now or as widely adopted/used if not for Musk and Tesla. Literally changed the auto industry. It's honestly remarkable. The guy really is incredible- to do what he did from co-founding PayPal to starting SpaceX, taking over Tesla and building it, creating StarLink, taking over Twitter and turning it from a failing company that never made a cent into turning it into a profitable business for the first time in it's history....I mean it would take all the plebs and retards who criticize and attack him 24/7 a million fucking life-times to accomplish literally even a fraction of what he has. He is going to go down in history as a Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes type- one of the greatest figures in the history of the American story.

I've been hoping for this since early in the W administration. I don't care who did it. Just do it.

I more meant putting some lib elite in charge of a broad range of spending situations.
