I think it's pretty easy to discuss everyday things without politics.  Or at least, without the kind of bullshit identity politics that this thread inevitably devolves into.

Looking at a world map, it would makes sense for that body of water to be called the Gulf of the Americas.  But something like that would have to be grass-roots and just happen, not by putting it on maps in conservative areas of the US.  That's obviously stupid.

But disband the Dept of Education, and each adjacent state will come up with their own name.

I do feel like this is an unfortunate reality. At some point, we decided that politics had to be a prominent personality trait for a great many people. And a deeply wide variety of subjects had to pull us into the bickering of that realm.

I honestly think Trump did it ( Gulf of America) just for the flex. Like he wanted the world to know what he could do. Nobody was clamoring for it to be renamed. I was kinda surprised the map companies actually went along with it, now they should rename the Gulf of California the Gulf of Mexico lol.

I’m honestly not concerned one little bit about them shutting down or scaling back any of the government departments. Dept of Education, or any other. I do know that they contribute “something “ to education, but there is so much bloat, waste, and outright fraud I’m completely onboard with starting from scratch. It didn’t even exist until the 1970’s. There is a lot of things that are mind boggling to me, such as FEMA sending $59 million to hotels in nyc to house illegals. Now it’s being reported that there are people over 150 years old collecting SS, which can only mean fraud and gross incompetence on the part of the government.

Would like to see the documentation on the 150 year old before it’s all said and done.
