yep. they knew full well they were going to lose in court. it's actually pretty impressive just how much they have gotten their clocks absolutely cleaned in court. they lose like every court case they have to fight.

In retrospect, this makes those cheaters over at Auburn look not only ahead of the curve, but downright genius.

NCAA:  You've violated rules.  Bow before us and prepare for your sanctions, like everyone else who crosses us.

Auburn:  lolz, no thx, we have our lawyers, meet us on the field of battle if you so choose.

NCAA:  Well, we're noting a strongly worded objection in your file, mister.

The NCAA and member institutions are subject to the federal antitrust laws just like everyone else (except baseball?). They cannot collude to use their market power to limit salaries (i.e., restrict economic competition for talent). However, if the players were to form/join a union, they could enter into a collective bargaining agreement (setting agreed-upon compensation), which is not subject to antitrust laws.

haven’t seen the show but suspect it’s top notch. Billy Bob Thornton is a hell of an actor.

I had a marvelous idea at the start of the season... earlier, actually.

Micro NIL deals... paying athletes such as an influencer on social would be paid.  $200 here, $500 there, arranged by a section of this very site which would take 5-10%... based on number of posts/videos posted and name dropping/product placement.

And then I checked it out. Had a convo with the lady in charge of it for the state of nc... she's a certified smokeshow, by the way.

In most states, which control it, you have to be a licensed amd/or registered sports agent.  In some states it's cheap- in some states that license is as much as $100k/year.

I still think it would work amd work well, but, I aint got that kinda cheese just to "find out"...

That's not true as I understand it. I believe the recent lawsuit that invokes the revenue sharing that @Mdot21 is referring to was NOT a decision by the NCAA, conferences, or member institutions. It was a court settlement that says they have to share out revenue.

While agreeing to settle and negotiating the terms of the settlement may be an NCAA "decision", I think we all know they wouldn't have decided to share a penny if they didn't think they were going to lose the lawsuits that triggered the settlement.
It'll be controlled and agreed to under collective bargaining, same as the NFL or most other professional leagues.  Why is a salary cap legal in the NFL?  Because the players have agreed to it.

If you kept it unorganized and anyone free to donate $5 here and $20 there, you've got something akin to an OnlyFans for football players.  Hell, have a live, running listing and as a player makes a great play, his donations spike, etc.

It's weird and kind of gross (not literally), but it's the way things seem to be trending.

Kids aren't getting paid for their name image or likeness.

They're getting paid b cause the coach thinks they can help the coach keep his job

When multiplying an even number by 6, the product ends in the same digit as the even number. For example, 6x2=12, 6x4=24, 6x6=36, etc.

Random college football FYI:  If you long for the days of the 70s OU teams utterly destroying people on the ground, check out Division II Harding the last few years.

In 2024, they ran the ball 92% of the time, averaging 48 ppg on offense.  Their defense shuts everyone down, and they only wound up losing to the eventual national champs this year.
