I voted, with my wallet and immigration top of mind.

We had 7 choices, plus write-in.
Mmmmm. I see.

It is of value I think to recall how the Germans lost their "democracy" in 1933 (and NO, I don't mean because ot DJT).
For those who want to know it is a rather fascinating bit of history.

As a practical matter, the Germans had more-or-less lost their "democracy" long before 1933.  The inter-war Constitution had a provision such that the leader could rule by decree subject only to override by a supermajority.  The problem was the both the Nazi's and the Communists refused to cooperate with other parties because they both opposed democracy.  Once the Communists and Nazi's obtained more than half of the seats cumulatively but neither of them had an outright majority there was no possible majority coalition because a majority could not be obtained without either the Nazis or the Communists.

The other parties were stuck between a rock and a hard place.  They had to either ally with the Communists or ally with the Nazis.  Given the Communist atrocities and the then ongoing Communist purges and famines in the Soviet Union, they chose the Nazis and we all know how that turned out.

It is easy to blame them in hindsight but I think their decision was understandable at the time.  They absolutely KNEW that Communism would result in purges, atrocities, famine, etc so they chose the other alternative.

B. Who is running the country? I'm serious.
If you thought it ever was Biden, I think you are mistaken.

The Illuminati are running the country, obviously.

A true reminder of the weakness of people. It's understandable to a degree, but only in the context of our grotesque fallibility.

They had a flawed system for sure, but the Reichstag fire took it off the rails completely.

Mmmmm. I see.
No other choice for things I care about, unfortunately. I guess there was another choice - to not vote. But that is not me.

I voted to see how it works and because my wife would give me grief if I didn't.  I think she also felt more comfortable with my being there with her.

If I wasn't married, I'd personally never bother at all.  I could still complain about the outcome.

I've never thought that. And I don't think Harris will either, if she wins. She's yet to even hold a press conference. It's been 105 days since she was handed the candidacy. Everything is scripted. Nothing authentic.

I'll never understand this position. Just hold your nose and vote (which is often the case, unfortunately).

We had a friend over for dinner Monday night, he's French, lives there.  His perspective on our election based on (I gather) French reportage was interesting.  He's obviously hoping Trump loses, he claimed Trump wouldn't be "in charge" anyway, his underlings were the real problem.

I piped up saying I didn't think Harris would be "in charge" either, and he launced into a long opinion about how she is really gifted and intelligent and would get along with global leaders who would respect her etc. etc. etc.  I just said "That isn't my take on her.".

My wife gets French news hourly on her classical music station and said they were saying Trump had a large lead, which I mentioned is not what the polls here are showing.

I have in the past read, with some help, some articles in Le Monde etc., and they write things we simply don't hear here at all, kind of weird takes on US politics.

1.  I refuse to vote for someone who isn't at least "OK".

2.  My single vote is extremely unlikely to be pivotal.

3.  It takes effort to vote, not much, I try and minimize wasted effort.

4.  I really have lost all faith in our "system" and don't care to participate any more in any fashion.

People tell me:

1.  If you don't vote, you can't complain.  I complain just fine and often.

2.  What if everyone felt that way?  Then I'd be a dang fool to feel differently.  (Actually, if everyone felt that way, I'd vote.)

3.  It's your civic duty.  OK, so what?  It's my duty?  Have at it.  I disagree.

4.  Everyone should vote.  OK, let everyone vote.  Fine with me.
