Trump is said to be a teetotaller, so was Hitler, just saying.

You heard all the same rhetoric, though.
I refuse to listen to any of it
"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

I quickly glanced at some summaries of what some folks said.  I mostly ignored it.

I already voted anyway.

I know it will be the end of the world if the other person wins though.

I view the Constitution as a rather important document with safegiards that one would view as rather essential if we are about to elect a "fascist".

It is difficult to amend, but two ways of doing that are available in theory if there is a near consensus.

I don't see where any Founder "specifically stated" what you asserted.  As I noted, there was a belief that being a politician was a more or less short term service role.  They didn't specifically state that as a need or desire.

Maybe I don't understand the term "specifically stated".  As in, literally.
OAM specifically quoted a letter from Jefferson advocating for term limits in the Senate and why. The "why" was substantially similar to the shorthand explanation he offered originally.

Ok,. Jefferson, as one of the FFs, wanted some sort of term limits in the Senate.  Gotcha.

I gather the other FFs didn't see it quite that way.

Clearly not enough to put it into the Constitution, of course.

But perhaps they also didn't think they needed to, because they didn't foresee what our system would have become.

Really, it's worked pretty well for 200+ years I'd say.  I don't even think it's really all that bad right now, except the deficit, which has only really become a huge problem in the last 10-20 years.  And I'd like to think that the politicians, even if we don't like them, do some good things that go unnoticed, we only gripe about the bad things that we don't like.

Politicians are also in my opinion a reflection of their populace, so even if you don't like a particular one, it's possible you'd just get somebody who is 90% the same person anyways.

Had I been around in 1820 or 1840 or heaven forbid, 1860, and you'd asked me how long the country would persist under the Constitution, I would have said ten to twenty years, maybe.

In other news, my kids' high school marching band took 1st place at Area competition, which means they'll be moving on to the State competition next week.

They'll be competing against the top 40 or 50 marching bands in the state (in their classification which is 5A).  They won State last year, and in fact this high school's band has won state the past 5 times in a row, which ties the state record.  If they can win it this year, they'll set a new record.  That would be cool.

But even if they don't win State, they've still had a fantastic marching season.  And their show is pretty great, too.

I’m struck by the fact that at a certain point Twitter being considered a bastion of liberality was just a sickening shanda.

Now it’s a run by a foreign-born elite and openly being used as a mouth organ and cheerleader for a specific political campaign (by a man with extensive business interests in remaining on the government teet). And it’s kinda just a big shrug.

Interesting how that worked out.

Congrats! Definitely better "news" than most of what we've been talking about here lol...

I was never a marching band geek. I was just an ordinary geek.
