Why draw a line now?  There's infinite "he's gone too far" lies and delusions Trump has said aloud in the past.  This is stupid.
He has no moral compass.
He cares about exactly 1 person on this planet.
He has no use for the truth.
.

Whether you vote for him or not, we all know these things to be true.  Getting fed up with it now is a century late and a billion$ short.
Don't grow a spine after giving him an 8-year blowjob.

Who are you responding to?

And yes, politicians lie, film at 11.  Some may lie more often than others.

That's like saying "everyone commits crimes". I mean some people go 74 in a 65 speed limit zone, and some people are Charles Manson. Everyone does it, so why should we treat them differently just based on degree?

As I said, some lie more that others, and some of the lies are material and important while others are trivial and rather silly.

Walz was accused of lying about being in China during the Tianemen protests.  Apparently he wasn't, I don't really care.  Harris was accused of lying about working at McDs at some point.  She may not have, I don't really care.  Biden lied about, well, quite a few things, that were at minimum exaggerations, it got to look pathological for him at a point (to me).  You know how to tell when Trump is lying?

I read somewhere there is no procedure for leaving NATO, only entering it, which is a bit odd.  Trump did pick him as National Security Adviser back when.

It would be interesting to see who Trump can get to work for him if he wins, and the polls, close as they are, have tilted his way ever so slightly over the past week.

Walz said we should dump the Electoral College only to be basically rug pulled by the Harris campaign.  Dumping it of course would be difficult, and unlikely.

One person might tell me all the terrible things Trump would do, and convince me not to vote for him.  Another would do the same about Harris, and convince me not to vote for her.

The thing missing, usually, is WHY to vote for a person, not just because the opponent is terrible.  What would Harris do differently from what Biden has done?  Why would it be better?

She won't say, except to tax billionaires, which won't happen. The biggest source of her donors are... billionaires.

As I comment repeatedly, taxing billionaires is very difficult, almost impossible.    It also wouldn't raise all that much revenue.

Honestly, on my bike ride to work this morning (often a good time for deep thinking), I was thinking about how annoyed with myself I was that I was spending so much time thinking about how to say meaningful things in political debates--particularly with people who have very likely already made up their minds. I used to love that. I still have a hard time resisting it, largely--I think--because I care (and I am literally a professional arguer). But I don't find much joy--it actually becomes stressful--discussing politics with friends who I know aren't really looking to change their views. I know which side I'm on, and I know why. I know which side some of my friends are on. I'm not necessarily sure I understand why, but I also know that I'm exceptionally unlikely to change their minds because that would require them to rethink more than any one candidate. Is that going to happen? Probably not.

I like to argue, it used to be a big part of my profession as well.  It got me into trouble at work often enough.

Most of my thought goes into "What might I do differently to adjust if X wins this election?".  Often the answer is "nothing".  Usually the answer is "a little bit".

When Obama was elected, I was confidently told my life was going to change majorly in many terrible ways.  There was some impact, I did lose my high deductible insurance option.  I was told the same thing when Trump was elected, and then again when Biden was elected.  After a lifetime of hearing all this, I realize it is 99% scary partisan nonsense.  Bush 2 did impact my life negatively, but that's a one off basically, fortunately.

If Harris is elected, I expect in 2-3 years to be 2-3 years older, and in OK shape, same with Trump.  I know some things they SAY they want to do will impact a lot of folks, but saying and doing are often different things.  Harris isn't going to tax billionaires any more than I am.  The Trump tax cuts will probably expire but get replaced with something pretty close to that, much as Obama adjusted the Bush tax cuts rather slightly in his second term.  Various appointments will be quite different of course.

I'd like to think one or the other would actually improve the lot of Americans, but I don't think either will.

I think a discussion like that would be good for you and me, but we're different because we are friends - and generally moderate.
