Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Bogota - Venezuela Post-Election Protests - U.S. Embassy in Venezuela (usembassy.gov)

The U.S. Department of State continues to advise citizens not to travel to Venezuela.  The U.S. government has no ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Venezuela.  The recommendation against travel to Venezuela for U.S. citizens is based on crime, civil unrest, kidnapping, and the arbitrary enforcement of local laws.
On July 29, media reported spontaneous protests across Caracas.  Other demonstrations have been reported on social media in Anzoategui, Carabobo, Miranda, Falcon, Lara, La Guaira, and Portuguesa states.  Protests were reported outside the international terminal of the Simón Bolívar International Airport.  On-going demonstrations are leading to road and highway closures, including the principal road between Caracas and the Simón Bolívar International Airport.  Media also reported that shots were fired, allegedly by police forces, at at least one protest.
We advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas around rallies and demonstrations whenever possible and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings.  In 2019, the U.S. Department of State withdrew all diplomatic personnel from U.S. Embassy Caracas and suspended operations.  All consular services, routine and emergency, remain suspended until further notice.

I absolutely disagree that police interactions dropped due to COVID.  The Federal Government sent out Billions to keep local governments operating.  Cops were out there.  Police interactions, however, are down as admitted by the NYT.  This is NOT because of COVID.

You keep trying to obfuscate but you keep failing.  There is a direct correlation between the adoption of stupid liberal crime polices and crime.
You can disagree all you want. Your position doesn't make any sense. Nebulous "liberal crime policies" are a great boogeyman, but reality has told a different story.

I'll just say that this upcoming wave of AI-caused layoffs/restructuring, are going to be massive, and disruptive.

It's hitting High Tech first for obvious reasons, but it's going to penetrate all industries and it's going to happen much sooner than everyone thought, even just a year ago.

I don't think there's much to fear long-term, history has proven that when technical and technological revolution destroy some classes of jobs, they create entirely new classes.

My suggestion to all of you, and I mean ALL of you, who are still employed and want to remain employed-- embrace it.  Learn how to use AI in your own field.  There are a lot of resources out there now, there will be tons more a year from now. Start playing with it, but also figure out how to incorporate it into your day-to-day.  Because if you don't, someone else is going to do it for you.

Here endeth my dire warning of the future.  And it's not all that dire.  If I do end up getting cut next week, I'm already preparing for the next thing, and honestly, it's most likely going to end up being a fun ride.
I'm completely fascinated to see what this will be.

I also was listening to a podcast that made a pretty interesting point. Apparently the No. 1 profession of men in the US at this point is being some kind of driver. And within 20 years, possibly sooner, that'll no longer be a thing. That correction is gonna be something.

(Unrelated, has anyone been in one of those driverless cabs? A friend had a membership and took me on a ride in one. Interesting experience, for sure)

Even the NYT admitted that depolicing was at least partially responsible.  If you can't accept that then I'm not the one failing to make sense.

Russian mercenaries (Wagner) have been in Venezuela for years to back Maduro up.  Putin congratulated Maduro on his election win and says Russia has a strategic partnership with Venezuela.  The only thing that Venezuela has is tar like petroleum which Russia doesn't need so I would assume Putin's interest is military.  Next, watch for Putin try to put some of his new nuclear missiles in Venezuala or even Cuba.

My take is that I'd see Kennedy's response to missiles in Cuba 60+ years ago as precedent.  If they try, I'd be in favor of a "quarantine" just like what Kennedy did back then.

However, the secret part of the deal that ended the crisis was that the US agreed to pull missiles out of Turkey.  Ie, it was "we'll stay out of your neighborhood if you stay our of ours."  Same applies today.

There isn't as much reason to try and put missiles in "Cuba" today as there was in 1962.  There was a fear that still exists I think about a sub getting within say 200 miles of DC and firing flat trajectory missiles at DC to decapitate our leadership.  I'm sure we have SOSUS sensors out there now.

Come on Medina. You know he is right and how he thinks.  Why just today Kamala’s camp issued a statement that the faltering employment is Trump’s fault.  😂😂😂😂😂

Because I'm into facts and not vibes. Sure, there was a movement for less policing, but that is not an actual policy. There was no widespread leftist policy adopted nationwide to have less policing. That did not happen. Some jurisdictions adopted some policies and most didn't change much of anything.

There was a monumental change in policing and everything else in 2020. That was due to COVID. Traffic patterns changes. Social patterns changes. Jobs changed. Schools changed. Everything changed, at least temporarily. This changing policing, like it changed everything else. There is no earthly reason to discount that.

Traffic suddenly dropped. There was no reason to have speed traps, because very few people were driving. Walking the normal beats made no sense because people weren't in their normal spots. Police had to adopt. Technology always moves as well. You mentioned earlier how we needed police interactions because they might lead to discovery of other crimes. But many jurisdictions now have Flock cameras, which basically detect stolen cars. That is much more efficient and safer than having cops pull over random people for lane violations.
