HB is an expert when it comes to the far right.

Weird, not relevant, off topic comment as usual.

I'm pleased you folks got the left/right media thing sorted out whilst I was on the golf course

now we're on to lying.  Media and/or politicians

unfortunately, politicians are not held accountable often enough for their lies and exaggerations to be much of a deterrent

Thankfully, the some prominent members of the media are held accountable

I'm ALL for holding politicians accountable for everything

My favorite is congress having a 10% approval rating and 90% of incumbents being re-elected.

Quick, someone defend the masses for me!

Separate from comments about whoever's plans about abolishing private healthcare, but that particular system is probably due a massive correction of sorts. The setup we have here is kinda bonkers.

No, Twitter I think can safely be called conservative, as Elon Musk likes to broadcast Republican talking points into everyone's feed on a regular basis. If that has to be called neutral, then what is the point of this exercise?
Twitter is most definitely not conservative. Elon Musk may be the owner, but he’s just one person on there and I’m pretty sure you can mute him or ignore him.

it’s kind of crazy that just a few years ago Musk would have been solidly on the left, probably even considered a democratic liberal. And now he’s a conservative republican….but has he really changed?

Musk has stated repeatedly that X is supposed to be about free speech. Facebook is definitely not free speech. The most likely reason why you think X is conservative is because prior to Musks acquisition X was like most social media platforms and had a very far left lean, and actively censoring free speech. When X no longer could suppress the views of people who had a different opinion than somebody on the left they simply quit the platform. I was on twitter for 2-3 years before Musk bought it, and I saw many posts from various lefties stating they were quitting over various issues. Conversely more conservatives flocked to the platform because it’s the only legit social media platform they could access.

if you don’t believe me get on Facebook and X and make a post about how wrong gay marriage is or how Transwomen aren’t women or whatever floats your boat these days. Facebook will definitely censor you, X will not ( please note I don’t engage in this type of online behavior).

I frequent many SM platforms just to try to get a diverse feed of information and viewpoints. FB will just feed you whatever will keep you engaged as long as it doesn’t violate their trust and safety or whatever. So whatever they deem misinformation they will censor. Hunters laptop is just one prime example.

X (twitter) is just the wild fucking west. Anybody and everybody can spout off whatever they want, short of threatening murder or something.

Reddit is way left, like total communism and socialism. But I enjoy reading it, mostly.

I really liked Dan Rather.  As a product of the 80’s he was on the news as long as I could remember. And, he’s a Texan, alumni of my sons university ( Sam Houston).

I didn’t know what to make of the GW Bush scandal, but now when I read his posts and stories I can see he leans far left. I wonder if he really knew he was reporting bullshit. The story as I remember is that Bush received special treatment in the National Guard. There was a document produced from this captain or colonel that told about these special treatments, but the problem was that the document used superscripts, which didn’t exist on typewriters from that era. They were in fact faked documents. I never did see who was really responsible, I hazily remember some intern or low level employees got the blame, and Rather was in limbo for awhile but they did in fact fire him. I never really blamed rather, I just assumed somebody else produced the story, hell I doubt he personally checks much. More like Ron Burgandy from Anchorman, he just reads the prompter.

But Rather was fired, and that always made me think there was more to it, and what else do they lie about?

Nobody I know takes Alex Jones seriously. The only reason I even remotely know about him is that the MSM constantly reports on him.

The same people who promote Alex Jones are the same type of people who kept televangelists going strong and home shopping network in the green.

Listen, you aren't going to convince me that something is neutral when the owner is promoting one candidate for president on the platform. If Mark Zuckerberg was putting a daily reminder to vote for Kamala on your Facebook feed you would look at me like I had two heads if I tried to tell you that was actually neutral.

As far as Alex Jones, Trump has called into that mess, so he at least took it seriously. Roger Stone had his own show on the network. Which is my main point - it is hard to moderate "conservative" content because the line between nutjob conspiracy theories and actually legitimate points is hard to discern. How does Facebook decide what is conservative and what is utee's "not conservative." I don't know and neither do they.

My FB feed somehow started showing a few posts related to "chemtrails" and "flat earthers", seriously.  I did open a few to gaze at comments.  There are some folks arguing about these items, trying to show their technical competence or something.  I can't tell if some are toungue in cheek, hopefully they are.

I know some folks despite FB and never "use it" etc. which is fine, I find it "interesting", or perhaps "entertaining".  My wife uses Instagram a lot and sends me links to something there, I really don't understand what that site is about, photos I guess.

The "owner" has modest control over a site like Twitter.  I don't use it, so I have no opinion whether it leans L or R, but I know it's about individuals who post.  I'm told "X" has fewer controls now over what gets posted, which is a change.  I don't know if that is true.  I'd bet it's easy to find very liberal posts on "X".

The owner CAN install algorithms that delete or moderate certain kinds of posts based on something.  The FB algorithms are wonky.  I routinely see plenty of anti-Harris posts on FB (and pro as well).

Don’t you live in Iowa or Nebraska? That seems like a bad use of money.
