I think for all concerned they will make an effort to get this out of the news ASAP.  SS's lawyer probably will pose for the cameras and threaten a law suit, the PD will probably make some inane statement, and it'll be brushed away.

Maybe SS gives the "detective" a signed cap or something.

I still have a hard time seeing a detective directing traffic.  Maybe he was there working some OT or something.

Oh really, his caddy?Attorney?Course partner? someone just got killed earlier and he missed the Cop in reflective gear? And the cops did't know who he was. We'll see what actual witness or film points out
He had no idea someone had been killed 2 hours earlier.

One of the "actual witnesses" has already pointed out that the cops didn't know it was Scheffler.

ESPN reported that Scheffler drove past a police officer in his SUV with markings on the door indicating it was a PGA Championship vehicle. The officer screamed at him to stop and then attached himself to the car until Scheffler stopped his vehicle about 10 yards later. ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington characterized it as a "misunderstanding with traffic flow" as authorities were investigating a traffic fatality earlier in the morning.

"Scheffler was then walked over to the police car, placed in the back, in handcuffs, very stunned about what was happening, looked toward me as he was in those handcuffs and said, ‘Please help me,’" Darlington said on ESPN’s "SportsCenter." "He very clearly did not know what was happening in the situation. It moved very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively."

Or he gives "SS" a signed subpoena

That's my point,PGA or not they were still funneling and directing traffic in reflective gear and SS contacted him. If that's accurate he'd be lucky to get just a misdemeanor

Lots more information coming out. I'm gonna bet that all charges will be dropped. Read this elsewhere, and I agree:

If I'm Scottie, I'm telling the City of Louisville to get that checkbook ready.... and you can all but guarantee this will be the last time the PGA will ever be in Louisville again.
That lawsuit would almost assuredly not go anywhere.

Agreed. Scottie isn't the vindictive type, and he certainly doesn't need the money. If all the charges are dropped, I think he'd just walk away rather than have to deal with it. Especially since he and his wife now have a brand-new newborn at home.

I'm not sure they have any legal basis for suing the LPD or that "detective".  But you can sue a ham sandwich.  I think both sides want this to go away quietly.

Scheffler was detained by police at 6 a.m. ET, booked by the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections around 7:30 a.m., and released on his own recognizance at 8:40 a.m. Arriving at Valhalla about a half hour later, he changed, ate breakfast and eventually visited the driving range about 30 minutes before his rescheduled 10:08 a.m. ET tee time.

A fatal accident involving a tournament worker being hit by a shuttle bus occurred outside the venue before Scheffler arrived; that slowed traffic near the entrance to the golf course and delayed the second round of the PGA Championship 1 hour and 20 minutes. Scheffler -- in an officially marked PGA Championship vehicle -- was driving toward the golf course when a police officer, Det. Bryan Gillis, stopped his car.

Scheffler tried to enter the property after a confusing and chaotic exchange, continuing to drive at a slow pace past the officer and towards the golf course, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, who was on the scene. The officer "attempted to attach himself to Scheffler's car," per Darlington, at which point Scheffler stopped at the entrance and began following the officer's instructions to exit the vehicle. As he was complying, Scheffler was reportedly pulled out of the vehicle, "shoved" against it, handcuffed and detained.
According to the arrest report, the road was closed in both directions following the fatal accident when Scheffler "refused to comply" with Det. Gillis' instructions, leading Scheffler to continue move his vehicle forward, allegedly dragging the officer to the ground. Det. Gllis received medical treatment after "suffered pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist and knee," and his uniform pants, valued at approximately $80, were "damaged beyond repair."

Police are also quite protected and get a lot of latitude for such things. What even would he sue for?

So, he was booked and then released OR 1 hour ten minutes later.  Somebody in booking realized the deal and expedited in a huge way over normal procedure, probably the ADA or judge.
