A couple of pages ago, someone was using motte-and-bailey BS to somehow equate that with Israel's operations in the Gaza Strip. Not sure who.
Ooh, I love a good motte and bailey reference.

Kudos to you, GR! :72:

The removal of both Hamas AND Netanyahu/Likud is required for there to be any solution in that part of the world.
It's unfortunately more than that. For better or worse (and to a degree understandably) Gaza is super radicalized. So cycling off that, which is a mammoth task, will likely take decades or generations.

Just an unfortunate shit position all around.

What's happening at a lot of these campuses is purely disgusting. I can understand supporting the Palestinian people - most of whom are probably good people. Openly supporting Hamas? Not acceptable.

Deport these people to Palestine so they can support Hamas directly. GTFO of here.

Oh, and...

Don't mess with U Florida or U Texas.
Looks like Florida got 'em with bureaucratic procedures and "free speech zone"-type policies. Very effective tools if used right and done from the start.

Yup. Radicalization is a powerful drug. Even the Germans haven't been able to fully flush the trash out of their system, and they've been aggressively doing it for 80 years.

But it starts with leadership that isn't loudly proclaiming extermination of their adversaries.

Agreed.

I may be off base here, but this feels like the US/West is using Israel as a proxy and Iran is using Hamas, etc. as a proxy.

I'm strongly against Wars, but I would almost prefer to have Iran come out of the shadows and attack Israel and the West directly.

Iran hates the West as much as it hates Israel.

So just bring it??

And when I say Iran, I mean its leaders. I'm sure there are many fine people in that country. Maybe?? It's hard to really know.

I have a story about one of my best friends that I will share. He's from Iran - refers to himself as Persian.

They never should've offered FAFSA to start. Problem solved. :96:
Logically fallacious appeal to extremes.  I award you zero points and dismiss you from Debate team.

At Texas it was the encampments.  Not allowed on campus.

At first I thought it was a bit heavy-handed but seeing what's going on around the rest of the country, it's obvious that the protestors didn't intend a peaceable assembly and were deliberately poking at authority so they could then complain about oppression.

I think a lot of folks from Iran refer to themselves as Persian for two reasons:

  • It's an ethnicity rather than a nationality and they want to distance themselves from the current Iranian government for their own emotional reasons.
  • They know Americans are stupid and if they say they're "Iranian" they'll be hated/feared, but if they say "Persian" most Americans will just take that on fact not knowing that "Pers" or "Persia" isn't a current world state and that it's code for "Iranian".

But yes, I do think there are many fine people in that country. And many fine people who were formerly of that country who ended up here in SoCal (LA being essentially the largest collection of Persians in any American city, much like Chicago is for Poles).

It’s funny, but I think based on the Florida restrictions, the Christian preachers who screamed with a bullhorn about how Jews and gays were headed to hell that were a fixture on library mall would be forcibly removed.

(I don’t totally have a problem with encampments, up to a point. Although the way they colonize is frankly kind of ironic. But if you’re a weirdo who just wants to sleep outside pointlessly, it’s a free country)

I have a problem with these types of activities effectively closing down schools.

If I had a kid at Columbia (which I would never do anyway) I'd demand my money back and send him/her to Gainesville or UCF or USF, etc.

Or better yet, trade/vocational school.
