I read "news" from a wide variety of sources daily. I don't trust any of them, but the "straight up news" is very often the same report from each site. By that I mean what someone said, what bill passed Congress, what the stock market did, etc., what I'd call hard news, it's factual, but then it can get spun of course later.
A site can report economic data for example, and another site reports the same data, but they emphasize one aspect over another, and vice versa, in their verbiage. That is where the spin comes in, depending on whether they want the reader to think the news is good or bad. And of course what gets headlined will vary quite a bit.
