So, I have been offered a contract to publish my Book by Pegasus, with a catch of course. I've been reading up on this sort of thing, there are "vanity publishers" who will generate a few copies of your writings for a substantial fee and then do nothing else. This is a scam, they will print anything you send, even random letters. There is no vetting at all.
Then there are standard publishing house contracts, and then there is a hybrid, which is what my offer is, they wanted 2500 British pounds from me up front. I'm trying to understand what else they do aside from print up some copies, there isn't much in the contract requiring them to market or distribute or anything else. I'm still rereading it.
On the other hand, Amazon-Kindle has a nice option with which I am pleased, thus far, they print up a book of your design for a pretty small fee, less than $4 per paperback, and offer it for sale as an ebook on their site with 60% royalty of the retail price.
I think I'll stay with Amazon, I have no expectation of being the next mega author, I just enjoy writing, and some folks have said they enjoyed reading my stories. Few readers have offered substantive comments, beta is one of two exceptions, and CWSooner is another. I sent the latter hard copies of the three books and would send same to beta if he wants them. I am finishing proofing Book Four now, which I think will conclude the saga, and I'll be on to something different.
