Chicago is not what it once was. Too many people fleeing the crime and taxes. Indiana and Wisconsin thank Illinois.

Editorial: Census: 7th year of Illinois population loss and the worst yet - Chicago Tribune

This is not good.

There's sort of an irony in competing to see which places can become the most crowded. Like, I've never sat in Chicago traffic and thought "Damn, it would be great if there were more people here."

Granted, I've also lived in dying industrial towns, and those weren't super either.
Growth, in broad terms, is a good thing.  You have construction which means jobs and folks spending money.  Traffic goes the opposite way of course.

The fastest growing large cities have no geographic restrictions (among other things).  You can buy a nice starter castle here for $300 K, it'll just be 50 miles from the center of the city.(Used to, prices probably have escalated.)

A city on the decline tends to death spiral because folks leave who can afford to leave.

Growth can be a great thing as it is here where I live in Florida. The economy here is absolutely booming including the job market and housing market. Unfortunately it also means incredible increases in traffic and people out places where you don’t necessarily want to see that such as when I try to take out my boat and go fishing or routine drives across town which used to take 10 minutes and I’ll take three times that.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Really? I'm thinking that the population going out is not like the population coming in.
The population coming in is a mix of natural population growth (children being born) and international immigrants. Net domestic migration is negative.

I looked this up, and apparently about 25% of California's population is foreign born. Almost half of those are now naturalized citizens. Of the remainder, some are certainly low-skill illegal immigrants, but many are educated and here on work visas.

California is very nice in many ways. It's just really expensive to live here.

But I know, I'm wrong about the state where I've lived for most of the last 20 years, and it's just a shithole, right?

Las Vegas brain institute.

Because what could be more fun than screwing with people who are already losing their minds?
Some where in the Cleveland area they built a mangled mess like this. All sorts of roof leaks/drainage/structural problems I recall hearing - happens when they get too cute.Want to hang art pictures like that on your wall fine, don't litter the landscape with it

I didn't say it was. Some of it is. If you take the back roads from LAX to my SIL's place in Belair, or to downtown LA, well, there ya have it.

Nah, @Mdot21 called it a shithole, among other things. Granted, I think the list of "non-shithole" places for him is quite small lol :57:

Oh no.  The horror.
