40 is my threshold...

I won't play if it's 39, but I'll play if it's 40 or 41

same temp for riding the motorcycle

same for wearing gloves, not needed over 40

Not too far from us, a construction crane is apparently leaning and buildings had to be evacuated, including the medical center where we did our PT.

NEW DETAILS: Leaning crane outside Midtown high-rise could take 2 days to clear (ajc.com)

The damage that could do - they would have to de-construct quite a bit of that structure if it collapsed in

Crews rush to dismantle leaning tower crane in midtown Atlanta, multiple buildings evacuated | | cbs46.com

It's on 13th Street, and we live off  13th Street, but it's about 5 blocks west of us.  I drove past it on 14th Street today to go to Costco.  There were about 10 cameras set up on the corner to get film of the impending disaster.  And it's supposed to be windy tonight.

There is a sizeable apartment building right next to it.  This is an interesting project, we've watched it go up, it's a city block of condos and office space and a hotel.

West Peachtree St. is shut down and is a fairly major artery, 4 lanes one way north.

My normal golf foursome are planning to start a simple $1 skins game for the first time this weekend.

According to our various trackers, we have handicaps of 20, 23, 24, and... 36.

Given how rarely anyone makes birdie in this group, a par from the 36 will likely win any hole. Even a bogey from him might win a fair number and tie a par from any of the others of us.

Oh well... Worst case loss is $18 lol...

What kind of clubs do y'all recommend for a beginner? I mean, I've got good hand-eye coordination (can still hit a 90 MPH fastball) so I think I'll pick it up quick, so I don't want to go cheap.

You sure you're talking about golf? :57:

My advice for a beginner:

  • Find a set of used clubs. Assuming you're of generally normal size and strength (and not yet a "senior"), basic irons with steel shafts of normal flex are fine. Really it doesn't matter much at this point.
  • Take some lessons. If you're a beginner, it's better to learn things right to start rather than try to figure it out on your own and learn bad habits up front.
  • Play with those used clubs for a full season to start to get a sense of the game and your swing.
  • After a season, go get professionally fit for clubs that fit your swing, and sell the used ones.

I'm a fan of professional fitting. Most of what they're working with is the part of the club that most people pay zero attention to... The shaft. But the shaft is the most important part. Beyond that the fitter will let you try out multiple clubheads and you'll go with whatever brand feels right to you.

But think about it... If I were a beginner at baseball, and asked you what bat was best for me, you'd say "learn to swing first, son, before you start figuring out exactly what bat is perfect for you".

That said, if you want to buy new clubs off the rack, you definitely want something in the "game improvement" category because they're most forgiving. I've heard good things about the Ping G710 series, and the Taylor Made SIM Max or P790 series, and the Callaway Mavrik irons.

But I still say start used, learn to swing, then get fit for a real set after a season of learning.

You can hit a 90 mph fastball?  Hmm.  I’d like to get you in a batting cage and verify that.

When we played the former pros, the guy pitching against us told me he let it go when I was batting.  He was throwing 90 mph or close to it.  I fouled one off.  No change ups, no breaking stuff, just heat.  It gets on your quick duh, and makes evil sounds.

I can't hit 90.

A typical pitcher in fantasy league is throwing 60, a couple guys maybe 70s.

I can hit that, bring it meat.

yup, buy a used set for your first attempt

something very forgiving with a big cavity back - not blades

Golf galaxy has always treated me and others well.  There's a golf Galaxy in Naples, just south of you.

They can fit you very well, swing speed and ability
