So, I get this flyer in the mail for an AC inspection and such.

Guy comes out, pokes around and a bit later the wife comes into my office to get me. I'm thinking, oh shit...

And yep. The air handler is trashed. I wondered why it was laboring. Now I know. Full of growth and icky things.

So, new air handler, new AC unit, full on duct cleaning/sanitizing/sealing, R30 insulation in the attic.

It was cheaper to go new rather than replace parts. Plus, this comes with a 10 year warranty on parts and labor. It's a Champion system.

Another expense I did not expect right now. Damn.

What you just described is the same with a grit, except that a grit has no taste at all.  It tastes like what you put on it.  Salt and pepper and butter?  It tastes like salt and pepper and butter.

I find pickled okra OK.  Not great, but OK.

Fried okra?  What a way to ruin perfectly good batter!
You guys are talking about two foods with little to no value.

Why would I ruin bacon and cheese by putting into a runny corn meal?

Yeah, I replaced one of our HVACs here a year back.  The good news is my electricity bills went down a lot.  The old unit was apparently garbage and laboring despite being five years old.  I got a quote first from Costco and the guy said $7400, as if that was a deal.  I got an independent guy replace it with a Bosch for $4700.

Maybe he found it fallen off a truck or something.

My October electricity bill was $68, I can live with that.

I know the newer units at least with the 15 seer rating or above use DC motors, with converters on them.Evidently DC motors draw less current.94 being in the Nether regions and a EE could prolly elaborate

Yeah, I replaced our AC in Cincy with an 18 SEER unit that had a variable speed DC blower on it.

I don't know much about this new Bosch unit, it's running right now, fan speed seems constant to me.  It pulls heat out of water.

I don't know much about this new Bosch unit
I had a Bosch Tankless Water Heater which I loved  that A friend and I installed in 2006.Problem being the newer units have so many more components. That when one of those gadgets goes south after the 10 yr warranty is up it will cost as much to replace as tank.So even the savings on natural gas gets bested by price gouging for parts :banghead:

The coils are not accessible.  My tech said the building at one time didn't service the water supply system and it clogged up a lot of coils requiring replacement.  I'm told it's scheduled now.  Somebody cleans out the main water supply system and heat exchanger/evaporator on the roof, or so I'm told.

The new HVAC equipment will be installed today. Looking forward to seeing what that new stuff looks like, and also looking forward to energy savings.

Outside, we have power washing to prep for house painting. Then all fresh mulch will go down.

If you have a HOA should look into that - maintenance is important.Amazing how many people never replace/clean filters.Or pull off the back panel on the fridge and vacuum that out.Though those coils are much easier to clean than the old models

We have a bldg "engineer" now, and I asked him if the building water evap system was cleaned out and he told me "It's on a schedule".  We do have an HOA, my monthly fees are rather steep because it's based on unit square footage.  But, it includes cable and internet and hot and cold water.  SO, it's about what I was paying for the house if you count the cost of painting it.

The upstairs unit is a Crane and my tech guy checked it out and said it was good to go.

Our fridge has the heat exchanger underneath, not in the back.  Had to replace that also.  If you buy an older house or condo, figure on replacing most things.
