Can your Turkish friends explain "Why did Constantinople get the works?"
It's none of your business.

I have not asked.  We were supposed to go there with him in April.  That didn't happen of course.  Now he wants to go to Egypt, and the wife wants to as well.

For the waters?

One could say corn with some basis in fact and history.  Europeans really don't eat corn.

BBQ is pretty much American.  There are other regions around the globe that have dishes they refer to as "BBQ," but indirect slow-smoked big hunks of fatty stringy meat are fairly unique to the USA.  I've certainly never seen it as a local staple elsewhere in the world.

From your link:

"What would a barbecue be without a great sausage hot dog topped with sauerkraut and mustard accompanied by potato salad and pickles and washed down with a refreshing glass of beer? "

Uhhh, no.  That's not BBQ.

Hence my point about many regions around the world having foods they refer to as "BBQ" but none are the American style of slow-smoked indirect heat for huge hunks of poor animal cuts.

There's something called "Korean BBQ" too, which is delicious-- but it's not BBQ.
