Fried okra is my favorite vegetable by far.

And of course I adore grits, and black eyed peas, and greens of whatever ilk.

Eating those things is why I grew up tall and handsome.

I like okra, both fried and stewed.  I like greens of every kind.  I like grits.  And I like polenta when I'm trying to impress fancy people like badgerfan.

Grits alone are good.  Grits with scrimps are good.

My mom makes a pretty amazing sausage cheese grit casserole that's a staple at most of our holiday meals.

I make a grits with bacon and egg and cheese thing that should be similar.  I'm not really a fan of shrimp and grits.  For one thing, they charge through the nose for it around here as if it's haute cuisine.

Grits, very buttered with bacon crumbles.

Okra= ka-ka I could fry up old shoe laces and there'd be paying customers.Throw okra in a pot and it just tastes like the other ingrediants, but it's really kinda slimy - try it with Escargots or slug on the half shell

Fried, steamed, sauteed - fried perhaps because it's crunchy and tastes like the breading.Okra pretty much sux right up there with kale.Sure I'll eat it because I'm spartan in my diet. You can sautee kale with olive oil and garlic with spices.but you're really covering it with the other ingredients

What you just described is the same with a grit, except that a grit has no taste at all.  It tastes like what you put on it.  Salt and pepper and butter?  It tastes like salt and pepper and butter.

I find pickled okra OK.  Not great, but OK.

Fried okra?  What a way to ruin perfectly good batter!

You guys are talking about two foods with little to no value.

Why would I ruin bacon and cheese by putting into a runny corn meal?
