It was something like "Take the geometric center and no part of the district can be more than X miles from that center, or less than Y miles."

The X would need to be adjusted for population density of course.  Where a state like Maryland has a panhandle the Y would need adjusting.

Yeah that's what I was getting at, using an average distance from a centerline or centerpoint, or establishing some number of sigmas away from the center which could include a variable accounting for population density.

This isn't hard stuff, it's just that nobody wants to do it and give up their chances at gerrymandering in the future.

Obama isn't going to jail - perhaps some nobody from his staff is a scapegoat and takes a fall
No, he won't, but prison is better.

When I was still living in shitinois, my local state rep was drawn out of his district. He was a PIA for Speaker/Crook Mike Madigan, so...

But, karma.

************************************

On March 2, 2022, Madigan was indicted on federal racketeering charges, with prosecutors alleging that Madigan led a criminal enterprise that sought to enhance his political power and enrich him and his allies. His trial began on October 8, 2024.

On February 12, 2025, Madigan was convicted on ten counts of bribery, wire fraud, and Travel Act violations. However, none of these convictions were related to his alleged racketeering partnership with Michael McClain. He was sentenced to 7½ years in prison and a $2.5 million fine.

So basically they got him for tax evasion instead of the racketeering stuff?  How very Chicago... ;)

I believe they call that the southside grand slam.

(it is always funny how people get hyped up about racketeering, but usually it’s much easier to just nail people for less complex stuff)

I doubt treason applies here in any provable sense.  It's more of a casual charge usually made in social media without much foundation.

But, I could be wrong.

I still doubt anything comes of this and it's forgotten in a month.

Yup it definitely could be.

It's gotta be more than, "this is a red state and that district seems overly blue" or whatever.

That would probably be a good start.

I do wonder if you could do some modeling in which you took the last 10 years of data and could generate a map that would most closely match representation to electorate. You’d assume someone dabbled with that.

Undermining a President-elect by creating a fake investigation/hoax is treason. Obama, Inc. may not go to prison, but they will rot in Hell.

Treason is the crime of attacking a state authority to which one owes allegiance. This typically includes acts such as participating in a war against one's native country, attempting to overthrow its government, spying on its military, its diplomats, its officials, or its secret services for a hostile foreign power, or attempting to kill its head of state. A person who commits treason is known in law as a traitor.
