Back in 1995 my wife's company paid retired General Norman Schwarzkopf $75,000 to give a speech on leadership to 3000+/- people who worked there.

He spoke for an hour.

It was worth it.

I'd ask "Stop what, exactly?".  The bombing mission is done, you can't somehow stop that.  What are you stopping now?

I've never heard a speech at work by anyone that was worth the time it took away from my job.  I rarely attended a meeting worth much either, there were a few exceptions.

To me, it's bloviating, when done, I go back to work same as I did before.  So does everyone else in my experience.  A year later anything a speaker said is long forgotten.

Since I was responding to a post about Congress bemoaning the use of the President’s vast war powers one would deduce I was referring to that and not time travel.

This speech was at a company conference in Orlando, at 7PM, after dinner.

I was glad to be there (I tagged along). The room was thrilled. You could hear a pin drop.

I don't agree with the bombing in any way, but I will say there are far too many people who would bemoan Trump for curing cancer.

I see folks on FB claiming we need to "STOP THE WAR WITH IRAN!!!" pretty often.

I would agree, if there was an actual war going on there.

I would call this a preemptive strike.  It's coming, and folks can sense it.....

A while back you had made a comment about some Jewish people you knew or saw on FB (I don't remember which) who seemed convinced that Trump was going to send Jews to camps any day now.

I assume that those very same people are now on this kick after Trump has shown himself to be a complete lackey for the Israeli/AIPAC group that it seems every President for a few generations has been owned by.

Anyone capable of independent thought has to have at least one thing Trump has done that they think isn't so bad and at least one thing that they think was bad.  If you don't then you are either a mindless TDS Democrat or a mindless MAGA Republican.  People from either of those groups can be readily dismissed.

This was friends of my wife's, not so much me, and it was when Trump was first elected.  They claimed they were likely to be deported as they were Jews, and I asked if that would include Trump's daughter and grandson.  They looked ... puzzled, and changed the subject.

I think they are about the most self absorbed people I've ever met, any conversation has to be about them and who the know and who they met.  My wife knows it drives me crazy, but they aren't around much, though I "have to go" to his 90th birthday party in Cincy in August, but fortunately there will be people I like present.

I should add they are "lock step liberals", if most liberals come out against this strike, so will they.  It's a bit like gays marching for Muslims.  Or something.

Jon Stewart had a thing a while back, after that NJ Senator went to jail where he thoroughly lambasted both parties on this issue. One of the people he named was Pelosi, see link below.

Please don't take this as me suggesting that Pelosi specifically or Democrats generally are alone on this because she and they are most definitely not. Stewart listed probably half a dozen from each party, it was sickening.
I found it and thought I'd drop the link here in case anyone was interested because I thought it was a well done piece:

The first 6:20 is all about NJ Senator Robert Menendez' corruption trial and the evidence was staggering.  Then Stewart rhetorically asks Sen Menendez "How Dumb Is You" and launches into the ridiculous investment returns that the AVERAGE US Senator makes, they beat the market by 12%.  Then he lists a slew of individuals, here are some:
  • Alan Lowenthal (D) whose wife dumped a bunch of Boeing the day before his committee released damaging information about one of their planes
  • Richard Burr (R) who got a private briefing about how bad COVID would be then immediately sold
  • Nancy Pelosi (D) who awkwardly answered about insider trading after her and her husband's portfolio massively outperformed the market
  • Mike Lee (R) having a ski lunch with 16 people paid for by lobbyists
  • Chuck Grassley and Doug LaMalfa (both R) writing farm subsidy bills that personally benefitted them
  • Roy Blunt (R) and Joe Biden (D) having their families rake in MILLIONS as lobbyists/corporate board members
Stewart hilariously had a clip of Hunter Biden being asked if he would have gotten a seat on a Ukrainian board if his last name wasn't Biden and Hunter answered "I don't know, probably not".  Then Stewart pointed out that "the crackhead" was the most honest interviewee.

The sad reality is that this is simply endemic.

I often point out a distinction in my mind between the "rich" and "high wage earners".  A multibillionaire has little need of even a massive salary, broadly speaking they don't earn money by getting a salary.  There are no doubt a few who do, it's a relative pittance even if they earn $50 million a year.

Buffett used to say he paid a lower tax rate than his secretary, which no doubt is true because "she" would probably be getting paid handsomely, while he would be paying capital gains tax rates on unearned income.
