Vegas is expensive, dirty, and generally unpleasant. 

There are a lot of good restaurant options, but nothing all that exciting compared to what I can get in SoCal. And they're all mostly overpriced too. I mean sure, if you want to eat at a celebrity chef's place, it's fine. But it's still going to be overpriced. 

I can say that there are a lot of good shows. And sometimes when there's a show you really want to see, it makes sense. With artists doing Vegas "residencies", sometimes it's the best--or only--way to see them. The last time we were there was for Adele, and it was expensive but worth it. The time before that we went to see Jerry Seinfeld, and ended up seeing a Cirque du Soleil show since we were already there. 

But I try to avoid it as much as possible--and I don't even have to justify the cost of a pair of plane tickets to get there, like some of you folks...

I guess I don't know as well the victims in Vegas - some seem like they might have the money to throw away

in the local casinos, .......... 80% of the victims seem like they really can't afford to waste their money
and can't afford to smoke those cigarettes

I can accept that bring up water from below in vast quantities can change the tilt of the planet.  I would not have thought it would be enough in reality to matter.  The water goes from being ~200 feet down to surface water.  Over time, that water would tend to seep back down into openings from which it came.

This of course is unrelated to the concerns about "normal" climate change (CO2 etc.).

I've seen some more articles about geoengineering to combat climate change at some point.  They are interesting, but seem risky, unintended consequences etc.  If our climate really is warming materially that might be the only practicable cure.

I was in Vegas for a conference in 1980, stayed at Caesar's Palace, which was very odd, to me.  I got propositioned a few times walking down the street.  It was tough to leave a restaurant with any change.  I put a couple dimes in a slot machine at one place and won five dollars ... in dimes.  I played roulette one night and won about $135 which was a tidy sum for me at that time.

I was there a week, flew back to Cincy, and hopped in my car at the airport to drive to NC to get married.  

I'm still mad that the Gophers single-handedly bankrolled the Dakota schools transition to 1-AA. They need to go back down to D2 where they belong.

The Dakotas all got to stick together. East Dakota included.
